Aren't they lovely.  Can they be kept as pets?  Are they the same as "marmots" - I've seen marmots in zoos, I just wondered if they are the same animal with a different name.

I absolutely LOVE prairie dogs!  There is a large Prairie Dog Town near Lubbock, Texas, that is a popular tourist attraction - thankfully located within a park and protected.  Many, many dogs have been exterminated over the years because they were considered 'pests'.  They are as cute to watch as meerkats.
