Hi guys and gals,

I think the reporters at the Daily Mail still have a lot to learn about teddy bears.
Here is a quote from their article about the upcoming Steiff auction at Christie's :

However the article itself is not so funny.

Apparently the whole Steiff collection was owned by a Paul Greenwood, who embezzled millions of pounds from investors and used it to buy among others things such as properties, a horse farm and cars, this unique Steiff collection valued at £ 1,2 Mio

Whew!  Wonder how many moles it took to make that whole collection?!  Someone at the Daily Mail needs to proofread a little more carefully.  bear_tongue  bear_tongue  bear_tongue  bear_tongue

Unfortunately, it is not just the Daily Mail that got it wrong. The same quote has been used in a lot of newspapers - including the Financial Times!  Very interesting though to see who is selling the bears!

My guess is that someone took the information over the phone and didn't bother to check it. One reason why I always prefer to have things in writing before they go in Teddy Bear Times!

What did you think to the Teddy Bear Times version Peter?

It was a great article, Dawn, and Daniel Agnew's enthusiasm was just oozing from the pages.  bear_smile
However, he did mention that he had to sign a confidentiality agreement, so I guess he was not allowed to divulge the owner's name.
I also received Christie's beautiful catalogue of the auction and this catalogue also does not mention the provenance of the collection.

Somehow it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable, knowing that this whole collection was bought with fraudulent money.  bear_sad

Poor Moles bear_sad

I'm sure there is someone out there that belives the stories though and is out there some where trying to catch a mole to make a teddy out of. bear_sad

I wonder how the writer did not question it... Common sense. I could understand people saying wool and all that but Mole?

Mole hair, lol.  I was a little slow on the uptake there because my screen reader reads fast and it sounded alike.  That reminds me of my best friend when I told her about mohair bears.  She asked what that was and I told her goat fur because I didn't know how to explain it either.  Out of her mouth came, "I ain't never heard of a goat called a Mo!!!"  Needless to say, the first mohair
Braille teddy was named Mo.

The thing that I noticed about the article that didn't make me laugh, it made me pure D mad, was the comment that a bear without movable arms and legs is not a teddy bear, just a plain toy bear.  Sorry I have to do this, but Arcto has something to say about that and I'll be typing from his point of view.  I know it's weird, but he does this in his blog all the time.

What's this jazz about I'm not a teddy bear because I don't have joints?  Who is this dude?  I think I need to write him a letter.  Of course I'm a teddy bear.
