Has anyone tried?
Can it be done?
Or is it one of those things you would need to paint?

bear_noexpression  I'm confused too. What form of silicon are we talking about? Some silicon can be painted, some can't. It's possible that dye would work as well as paint, but it would take some experimenting, I think!

Hi there!  If you are talking about the kind of silicone that doll makers use to make limited editions cast in silicone.... I know that it can be mixed in different shades before it is poured.  Didn't we have someone here that popped in for a while that did silicone bear faces?  Anyone recall?

That would be interesting Kim, I would like to read that.  I guess I must have missed it.

You know what... I did some searching around... and I am thinking that it was so long ago, it must have been when I was active in the BAG group..... I know that Sherry Goshen was doing some work with silicone dolls, and at one point made a few teddy bear type creatures that had poured silicone faces... they were really neat... if i am not mistaken, you can tint the silicone that will be poured, then you can also paint upon it, but it has to be done with special silicone paints.... I looked around in vain to find a website for Sherry... she's primarily known for her cloth dolls and cloth doll patterns...
You know what... I know there is a lot of information on silicone and how to paint it at the dollmakers. org discussion list.  It is a really fabulous place... well, it used to be more so, they had some "issues" and many people left.... If you join the board though... you can search their archives... let me find the link....

I know that Sherry pops in there from time to time... she's a really neat person, we've spoken a few times in the past about miniatures...

It's a neat place to search around about how to do "stuff."

I have talked with Sherry  a couple of time and she was one of the sweetest gals.  She told me to check out silicone dolls on the internet but not to be surprised by what came up....phew, was she right!

Thank you Kim for taking the time to search this out for me.  I greatly appreciate it.

Oh My GOSH!  Nancy... how I wish I had just read your post before I searched!!!! Jeeze Louise, there are some bizarre things out there!  WOW!  Anyway.... I'm still looking around a bit too Nancy, if what you are looking for is not on the Dollmakers.org site.

I am wanting to sculpt waves, but I was wanting to dye them so that the translucent quality of silicone remains.  I was kind of thinking of the caulking stuff as it is the one I am familiar with BUT nw I know there are other media I may have to pull on some gloves buy some stuff to make up and have a go.
