For artists and collectors sponsored by Intercal...your mohair supplier and Johnna's Mohair Store
Hiya.
like everyone here i either collect or make bears and at the moment have decided to try and sell a few to cover the cost of making my baby's, i was wondering does it matter what materials your bears are made from??
I prefer making mine from plush synthetics, faux furs, polar fleece and felt, i love using patterned cottons for my paw pads and bellys.
Im not too sure what they are supposed to be listed as but my main concern is this, does it matter what you use or how cute your bear looks? :0)
Hello!
I think it is difficult to give an answer, as it may be personal. Some people like mohair and don't like faux fur, some people love faux fur...I have worked with both materials, and sold creations made with both. I think the important is not which material you use, but that the material you are using is of a good quality.
Good luck!
A bear can be made from any kind of material. It does not matter. When you list it, just mention the type of material you made it from. You can say something like "this delghtful little bear is made from a vintage chanelle bedspread. the poodle print paw pads are 100% cotton. The soft tufts of fur sprouting from his head is from a recycled mink coat." I think using different materials makes a bear unique and fun.
I agree with Francy. whatever you use, make sure you use quality materials.
Hiya, thanks for replying.
I was just curious as there seems to be a strong prefference for mohairs and such but I love my synthetics and work with what ever fires my imagination.
this site is pretty awsome and plently of talent
its great to be here
thanks

There are so many beautiful synthetics out there. Many bear artists use them in there creations.
There are many people using synthetic now. One of the most expensive bears I ever sold on ebay was made of synthetic. So it does not matter a bit. I just list all the materials I use, inside and out when I go to sell the bear.
