Nice old bear! He does have the look of a Steiff bear, and with his excellent mohair coverage and large size, he could be worth real money.

You should contact Ken Yenke to get an expert appraisal (via email), in my opinion, and then consider having a restoration expert spruce the bear up a bit (with correct materials, etc.)

Yay! My Steiff senses are tingling, so please share the verdict when you hear back from Ken. (Depending on what part of the world you're in, there are also very good people out there who can do a light restoration on the bear.)

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris, you have a very nice bear.
Is there family heritage? Photos?
It is a 1907 Steiff Cinnamon mohair teddy bear, which looks to be in very good condition. If the mohair and backing is strong, then it has a good appraisal value. Understand that this color mohair usually has a weakened fabric today, due to a chemical and atmospheric reaction to a certain dye Steiff used. Only an in person examination of the mohair can I be 100% certain, but I will appraise as though the mohair is strong. The bear requires some stuffing and minor stitching. As shown, I would estimate the bear to be in the $5,000.00 range.

Fantastic! Besides everything Ken says, I would add that he's very cute! Congratulations!
