For artists and collectors sponsored by Intercal...your mohair supplier and Johnna's Mohair Store
In another thread we decided to challenge oursleves by choosing an animal other than a bear or whatever we are accustomed to making. The animal could be anything... as long as it challenged our abilities. And it can be made of mohair, synthetic, other fabric or felted.
So..... though we set July 30th as a deadline..... whenever you have your Beast made... share it with us here!!! Photos!!! Lots and lots of photos!!

Wendy
Thanks Matilda! iT WAS A FUN ONE TO MAKE! AND JANE, I LOVE DE MONKEY.. HE'S TOO COOL! GREAT JOB!
Finally got something done for this challenge. I've had a fabric remnant for years that I bought to use as paw pads, but its texture looks somewhat like elephant, rhino, hippo, etc. hide . . . so I decided to use it for my first ever hippo. Paul has an affinity for hippos and can add it to his collection. It's 9.5 inches from bum to end of nose and 5 inches tall. I have to confess that I did study one of his stuffed ones . . . a giant (26" long) hippo made by Cooperstown Bears . . . to figure out how to draw some of the pattern pieces. That one had a gazillion pieces just in the head, so I definitely simplified my version and did a lot of needle sculpting.
OOOOOHHH SUEANN!!! I LOVE HIPPOS!!! AND YOURS IS WONDERFUL!!!!
Thank you very much, ma'am!!

Thank you much, Jane . . . yup, hippos don't have much going for them in the looks department!
The Hippo Sue ann is just wonderful. !!!
There is alady here in WA who also makes hippos. The level to which the needle scultping is taken is unbelievable.
Yours has such an alive face.
Wendy
Thank you soooo much, Wendy, for your nice comments on the hippo. Does the lady that makes hippos there have a website? I'd love to see her work!
