Kim,

I don't  know if you remember this little one from last fall.  I made him right after I had eye surgery and could only see out of one eye.  He has a center-seam head...4 pieces in all.  So...if I can make one half blind...and only about 2 inches tall...YOU certainly can make one!!!

Good Luck!!!

I forgot all about him until I saw your post.  I gave him to a friend...it kind makes we want to make another one.  HMMMMMMMM

wooow!
is he wearing a hibiscus? or a nasturtium? (both are edible, & pretty enough to eat)
&, gosh. I think if I tried to work that small in mohair, I'd have to SOAK it in fraycheck. lol

I love his sherbet color! Lucky friend you got!  bear_grin

Yep, it's a nasturtium on his head...in fact that was what I named him.  My friend was thrilled...she actually got a couple bears out of me...tricky woman!!!

I probably wouldn't try mohair that small either but just a wee bigger would be really cute...can't imagine trying to turn the piece with the extra bulk...I remember turning his little arms was a real booger and a test of my patience.

Go for it...I can hardly wait to see what you come up with.

My bear, Kip (7"), isn't very small - but I made him with a center seam using only 2 head pieces, which might work well with a tiny bear.  Kip.jpg

Hi Kim

I have just recently tried out a two piece head and really liked it.  I managed to make Betsy who is 4.5 inches tall.  I am thinking about trying it out on a larger bear too.

sue ann & julia I am hugely impressed  bear_thumb

Did you guys do darts on the crown of the head for roundness?

will I ever get past feeling like darts are a KEWL SECRET WEAPON?? rofl

Hi Kim

Now you've got me thinking too ... my two piece pattern didn't have darts but I'm now thinking that I should try that out.  I found that the two piece worked really well with mini bear fabrics but when it came to mohair I had heaps of problems  with the fur being caught in the centre seam and it just looked really untidy so I'll try that another time when I'm in the right mood.   bear_rolleyes I look forward to seeing how yours turns out.

untidy, fortunately, is rather my style, so it ought to work out well!

Yes, Kim, I did put a dart in the head pieces of my design . . . a fairly large one right at the highest point of the crown.  I've made as big as a 12" bear with just two head pieces.

Yeah, I think you need darts (aka KEWL SECRET WEAPON) in a two-piece head, otherwise the head can end up very flatfish looking.  Ya know what I mean?

DSC00836-2.JPGMostly my bears are traveling companions and well, something cuddely to sleep with for the gollies.  My smallest is 2 inches....thats about the right size for my 4-6" gollies....

Baby-Bear450.jpgI used to make my Baby Bears that have only 2 head pieces. No darts, just have to stuff it so the cheeks fill out. Hmmmmm, haven't made one for quite a while, maybe for my next bear . . . . . .

I've seen some wonderful big bears made with two piece heads ... I'm thinking of dear old Frank Webster's (Charnwood Bears) ... he made some a while back.  They must've been 20" or so and had great personality.

wow - I can't imagine a 2 piece head big bear!
feel free to share photos of that, too!

there really ARE so many ways of doing things.
it's a perfect example of why I do love bears as an art form.

Kim, Unless I'm completely mistaken, Michelle Lamb's (One&Only Bears) are center seam... though not sure if they are more than 2 piece in the end.... lol  bear_wacko

When I first started I loathed attaching ears. They just werent my strong point at the time. SO I started designed 4 piece heads that had a centre seam.  The side head is in two parts with the ears on each piece.
Sorry I dont have pics.
