Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and how you managed to solve it...

I am working on a bear right now and I love her face from the front, but her side profile does nothing for me....I just worry that someone if they buy her and turn her sideways will think that she is hideous...and want their money back...am I being silly...do people look at their bears in the side profile....HELP!!!!

Krista,

LOL!!!  You crack me up!  I've had this problem before, too.  To me, sometimes the face is lovely from the front, then you turn it sideways and it looks like it ran into a bus.

I am no help as to whether or not collectors are picky about profiles; I guess it would probably one of those 'to each their own' kind of things...  but I know that if I'm unhappy with my bear's face looking too smashed, I will usually thread sculpt it more to bring the nose out and eyes and forehead back a bit.  I bring out the nose by sculpting the eye socket area from under the chin.  that pulls the eyes down and in a bit and causes the nose to poke out more.

Dunno if I helped, but that's what I do!

I haven't had this happen so far... Maybe wherever you are selling the bear, include a picture of the profile so that the person knows what it looks like from the side (I am sure that your bear looks fine from the profile  bear_original  ).....

I agree with Kim, take his profile too.

..I always include frontal shots, right and left shots, and back shots when I'm trying to sell a bear.

Here is a picture to show you what I mean...honestly let me know what you guys think...I think it looks like she has a roman nose...any ideas on what I could do to fix this would be appreciated...

bear_original I love the Roman Nose look bear_wub

But if you want a 'dished' muzzle, you could needlesculpt from the line where the long fur meets the short to under the chin?

Krista!!!!  I think she's great from the side!  Seriously... I wouldn't change a thing!  I think it's kind of "lion-like," it gives her loads of personality... and after seeing the front view of her and your avatar bear... it's not like I am looking at the profile going... WHAT?  Where did this come from?  It look perfect to me!   bear_wub  bear_wub  bear_wub

Hi guys thanks for all of your help, after looking at the pictures I posted and reading your comments I came to the realization that it wasn't the nose that was the problem for me, but the white fur not sculpted enough in the cheek area, I have fixed it but will post more pictures after my batteries in my camera recharge...You are all Awesome...thank you thank you thank you for your help..

Hugs,
Krista

Actually I think it's darling as is.  Don't change it too much!

If you wanted to get the line of the nose more concave you could do what it LOOKS LIKE Denise Purrington does (I have one of her bears.)  There's actually a line of sculpting stitches right down the centerline of the muzzle.  It sounds like it would look awful but actually you can't see it at all, even on short, white, somewhat sparse fur.  It's just when feeling it that I can sense that little "rut" of stitching.  It makes the muzzle nice and concave.

If it's any consolation...... MY profile is scary and ugly as heck!!!
Seriously... it is! I look totally different! It's awful!

I've seen many bears on eBay that have the most wonderful face, then you look at the profile and think it can't possibly be the same bear. But ya know, I've never really studied my bear's profiles. So now I must go do that. I'm afraid to!!!!

I think her profile looks great, but you gotta do what you
gotta do until you feel she's 'done'

You, girls are so funny! I enjoyed reading this thread..
Well, Krista, I think your bear looks just fine. Maybe a bit different from what you wanted to see, but it doesn't mean she is ugly. I like her profile.

Actually, me myself doesn't like my profile too. I think it'a some kind of a  "girl's problem" I wonder, what your BEAR  thinks about her profile??? I do think she likes herself with this profile.

Krista, you are quite hard on yourself.  I think your bear looked just fine...and then seeing the second photo...I like that even more.

On your next bear you could place the nose higher and that would take away from the curve or Roman nose look.  Or you can keep him just the same and he will still look adorable.
