Just pondering, and wondering........
Do you prefer your bears with tails or not?
I don't usally put tails on bears. I have once when I had a bear lieing on her stomach and her little bottom looked a bit bare sticking in the air.
Tails, definitely! I seem to always end up having to add one...... something seems to be missing otherwise!!
I love tails!
Do I put them on every bear? no. Don't ask me why though. LOL
THere's just something about a cute little tail though.....
Oh, Heather! That is the cutest picture!!! And you're right, the tail is adorable. I have used a tail on one bear that I can remember; he was a circus bear I made way back in about 1997 or 1998. His fur was sparse blue mohair on a yellow-gold backing. And of course I've put tails on my three cats and my pig, Hamlette. Hmm. You've made me consider using tails more often!

Oh, and your bear in the picture is a cutie-pie!
Karen I love to see a tail ... I have only done a few myself .. Heather what a wonderful picture
I love little tails on bears, although I have only ever made two of my own with tails. The first tail I made was ridiculously large and looked, well, suffice it to say it looked inappropriate!! I've been thinking of introducing some sensible sized tails for my next show.
Your picture of the teddy with a tail is gorgeous!
I usually forget to take a rear-view shot, but . . .
 Sorry--just edited to reduce size of gargantuan humungous pixelly piccie

Heather and Eileen your bears are adorable, I love tails. But I only ever seem to do them on Polar bears and nothing else, strange hey.......
I think Paula is right small tails are the best.
Well my latest bear just finished was for a project and due to a deadline, I ran out of time to put a tail on so tailess he went off today.
Hmmm I don't mind. I never remember to put tails on but when I see them I think it's cute. May have to make my next BEAR with a tail.
I haven't even thought of starting to make bears yet. I still have much to learn before I'm comfortable enough to make an attempt. But from a collecting standpoint I can say that I don't usually notice whether a bear has a tail or not until after I make the purchase.
Usually I'll see a bear sitting on a shelf and I'll have to have him. A lot of the time I don't notice intricate details, I just see a bear, fall in love for some reason, snatch him up and take him to the cash register. It's not until I get him home do I notice if he's tailed or bare butted. I suppose a tail isn't a very big factor in determining whether I like a bear or not.
Of course, if and when I do start making my own bears I'll probably give all of them tails. I don't know why I feel that way. Just a gut instinct I suppose.
This is Phineas, the blue circus bear I mentioned in my previous post. He's an oldie from about '97-'98. In this picture you can just make out his tail.

I have never done tails on bears, but I love the look - I probably haven't done them because most of my bears are dressed.
This is not quite the same subject but in the same "location". I remember hearing a story about a very well know male artist who came up to a friend of mine at a show. They were chatting away and he picked up one of her bears, turned it over, and remarked that he always felt that "tush tags" looked like a piece of toilet paper had been left behind - so to speak! They were good friends, so no insult was intended or taken, and they both had a good chuckle. After she told me this I promptly changed my "tush tags" to a lot higher up on the back. Now whenever I see those lower down tags I always think of that story.

Yes to tails! I think they add just a little extra touch of cuteness. But I can see, why one may not put a tail on a dressed bear.
Tails are so easy to do I never even use a pattern. Just wing it. I cut out two oval halves, sew, turn, then sew to the bears bum with a slight curve. Wella!
