Hi All, I'm near about going nuts trying to figure out how to make a round head pattern. I've tried a clay ball and pinning tracing paper to it bear_ermm , I've tried marking up a tennis ball bear_angry , I've guessed bear_wacko , and I'm going crazy trying to work it out....any help would be most welcome! bear_wub  bear_grin  bear_wub

If you want it to be perfectly round you need to decide what size and use strict measurements. For example if it is to be 10 inches from the bottom center to the top center (think of the north and south poles) then you would cut 4 sections. Each would be 10 inches tall and 5 1/4 inches wide (you add one quarter inch to compensate for the seam. You won't need to add another 1/4 inch to the other side because when it is sewn together you will also be taking a quarter inch off of the top and bottom in the seams so it all comes out even. Here is a pic

Becky,
Are you designing a new head or trying to modify an existing one? Sometimes, when I'm not happy with the shape and want the head to look rounder, I tend use darts.

Thank you Sonya, I was thinking of something like that (a beach ball snapped to mind), I'm not picky about perfectly round a little flat in the front and back is fine, I've just been trying to work out a new Anime pattern and the head was never satisfying me (got the arms, legs and body down pat). "Regular" bears are so much easier to design (been doing it for some 10 odd years)...
