Donna's Duin BruinsIs there anyone who can help me with some sewing terms? I am afraid that I do not know what a "stab stitch" is. Also does anyone know what a material would be that would have been called "baize"? These are from old patterns that I found and I don't have a clue what the modern term would be for them. I thought about calling my 90 year old aunt to ask her, but her hearing is so bad on the phone, I figured I would not have much luck.

Donna, I looked on the web and found this info. A stab stitch looks like a whip stitch I think.

From winkopedia- Baize is a coarse woollen or cotton cloth, called "felt" in American English, often coloured red or green. It is often used on snooker and billiards tables (it is the green cloth that covers the top and is often referred to as 'the green baize'). As the surface finish for baize is not exceptional, it is generally not used for tables used on the professional circuit. Instead, worsted wool is preferred.
