I have just crochet some hats for bears and I wish to stiffen the brims. Has anyone got any good tips on how I should do this?
Hugs Jane.
Jane you can buy some product that stiffens material and fabric ... it is just call fabric stiffener here in Oz. You just put it onto the object and leave to dry I used it for the shamrock that I did for Wendy's Irish bear..
Thanks Patsy I'll see if I can find some.
Hugs Jane.
This is the stiffener and this is Patsy's shamrock and these leaves I used the stiffener as well.
Hi Jane! Yes.... try some fabric stiffener if you have access to some. Here's link to some information about stiffening crocheted items... now these are mostly snowflakes but it does give at least one woman's opinion of quite a few old and new stiffening methods for crochted items! In MY oppinion... don't do the sugar! Though some of my grandmother's snowflakes were done with sugar some 50+ years ago... and they are still absolutely gorgeous!

I always used the cornstarch method to stiffen my doilies but you can also purchase the spray starch.
