Dear all,

Valentino poses on the scooter's saddle in Ancenis.

You've been waiting for them: here they come: the pictures of the races themselves.

These scooter races are organized into rounds for the pilots: a pilot cannot stay on the circuit longer than 35 minutes. So once he reaches 30 minutes on the circuit, someone from his team comes along the circuit to show him a big tag with the number of his scooter to let him know it is time to go back to the pit. Once the pilot see the tag, he makes a sign with his hand, makes a last tour and go back to the pit for a quick pilot shift. Depending on how much petrol can be put in the scooter, some petrol is added during the shift.

To calculate the timing of the pilots, every machine is equiped with a little box that can communicate to the computers the timings each time the machine pass near a receptor placed along the circuit.

First of course: pictures of the depart:

During their assays, the pilots were timed.
The pilot with the best time for one tour was the one who would depart first.
All pilots were aligned for the departure. A first departure was given for a single tour then the machines were re-aligned for the real departure. This time, while someone was staying near the machine, all the pilots aligned a few meters far from their machines facing them. At the signal, they all rushed to their machines, installed and left with their friend pushing the machine a little bit.

Single tour departure:

Well, this departure was not a success for François this time: he ended up being the slowest as the scooter did not want to go!

And now here are a few pics I took during the races:

François very red after his shift on the so hot circuit (42°C on the circuit!) looking at his rank with Malko: we were given the ranks every hour.

Sophie I am really enjoying reading about the scooter races.  I had to show my son the racwe pictures.  He is 12 and races Motocross bikes on dirt tracks.  It scares me to watch him but he loves it.    I always hate when the racers on the paved tracks crash and slide .  I know the leather protects them , but it still must hurt.  I see Valentino is enjoying himself  bear_grin

Here are a couple of pictures of my son's race from this past sunday

They all look like were having a wonderful time Sophie. Boy that was sooooo hot for them and dressed in their leather clothing...they must have been melting. No wonder
François was so red. Great pictures again, thanks for sharing.

Hugs Jane.  bear_thumb
