I am finding ebay a real enigma...I can't seem to find a way to list so my bear is visible to all.

I did a search last night..(I don't have a bear on there...just being nosey) and in the UK when I searched for 'ARTIST BEAR' it came up with about 250 bears. Then I did a worldwide search which came up with 930 something...which was fine and I saw Erins lovely Sadie. Then ...out of interest I thought ...'I'll check an artists site who I know usually has a bear on ebay' ...and sure enough there it was on her site but not on the listing that my search came up with. I clicked on the category listing at the top of her ebay listing and 'hey presto' another lot of bears showed up...this time creations by Denise Purrington...Michele Lamb...etc. But even though it said 'worldwide' I could find no UK or other bears on that particular list.

Here's my question...why do these bears and other creatures not show up when I type in 'ARTIST' in the bears and dolls section...even though some have 'artist' in their title (I did check that)?

Also ...what would you say is the best way to ensure you work gets seen by as many people as possible. I always have a feeling...when I list on ebay that my work is invisible to a huge section of ebay viewers..simply because I am missing something crucial.

I've done Ebay.co.uk...and .com...both with decent outcomes..but I always think that I am not hitting the right buttons because I am clueless about ebay....

Any advice more than gratefully received!!

Jenny

PS..I know we've done ebay to death!!!!!

I'd like to hear the answer to this question too.  I always wonder!  For example, I have a wonderful bear by another artist available on Ebay at the moment and I'm not at all sure it's turning up in the listings that would make it seen by as many as poss.  I'm always very hit and miss with my use of Ebay and never sure whether or not it is worth listing on .co.uk and .com - I usually just aim for .co.uk and keep my fingers crossed!

I get three times the hits on .com as I do on co.uk/I make sure I have bear  ,wee scone ,mohair and vintage in the title. The ooak on .com is the one I use and because I have vintage in the title it shows up to people who collect antique bears too.I get more if I list on featured but it is quite expensive.Swings and round a bouts eh????

HMMM!! I definitely is Diane...I just can't work out why those bears didn't come up when I did a world-wide search...only when I went via a link from an artists website..and I am not kidding, there were some beautiful bears that weren't coming up on our search...so that leads me to think that my bears may not come up when others search...

I am listing a bear on Sunday and am very worried about how best to do it.......

It would depend on WHERE (which category) you listed it in. I found that the majority of the collectors look in the Bears/Artist/Artist one of a kind category. Thern instead of doing a search, they go right to the category and they all show up.

Hi Sonya...The theory works fine on Ebay.com...but not on .co.uk..where OOAKs don't have a special category...and no matter how I search..or go to the category direct these bears don't show up...

I will try with .com again but I am worried because we don't have as many categories that my bear won't appear on the UK ebay searches...or anywhere else either....

Jenny,
When you list a bear, it also depends where you say you will ship to.  If you ship worldwide, it is supposed to be visible on all sites BUT my niece and I discovered that you may have to search for them by "items available to the UK", if you have listed you will ship to the UK, or "items available to ..... (whatever country you are searching).    I don't think they automatically show up everywhere, which sucks because not everyone knows all the little tricks to ebay.    We figured this out quite a while ago, so they may have changed things AGAIN.  I hope I am making sense. There may be an exception if you pay the $20.00 feature fee, I'm not sure.

                                                 hugs,

Jenny, Can you also list on the .com site rather than the .uk site?

I have found that when you are listing in the .com site they won't show up here in Australia unless they are double listed in theartist bears ooak section and the artist bears other section.  This is because Aus don't have a special section for ooak bears, perhaps it is the same in the UK?

Its a bit annoying when you do a worldwide search and can't find your bear!!  bear_rolleyes

Sonya...Yes I can list on .com...no problem...but because when I searched on .co.uk and ticked the 'worldwide' box many bears were still not listed,  I am worried that if I list on .com that my bear may not be visible to everyone.  Many of the bears I dicovered when I clicked the link on the artist website had not shown up on my search for Artist Bears. Only when I clicked the category link on her auction page did these bears show up....all wonderful and many without bids despite being accomplished work. This is my worry...not the bids but being seen.

No matter how I search the UK site these bears do not show up despite them being 'Artist , one of a kind bears' and available world-wide.

It's totally buggng me why this can be so....

I am going to wing it again on .com and pray some soul notices me...heaven knows why this happens ...there must be a simple answer....but I am not an Ebay expert more's the pity.

Jenny, When i list a bear on ebay.com i have to list in 2 categorys. First being :Dolls & Bears > Bears > Artist > Artist, One of a Kind and then also Dolls & Bears > Bears > Artist > Other. The other bit means it will also go on ebay.co.uk under artist bears.
I really hope i have made sense  bear_wacko , if not let me know.

Hugs

Well, the first time I sold on e-bay I took one of the bear sellers and followed her back..so I do the same thing...I would have done a second cross listing in gollies, but when I did a search I couldn't find any.  Then a friend in NZ found something like 19 gollies....sheesh...and I list every spelling I can think of.....e-bay seems to be a wee bit of a mystery, kind of like the bermuda triangle.  The experienced sailors manage and the novice sailors get sucked in.....

its a mystery to me....but I am not an experienced sailor.

Jenny,
I list my bears on Ebay.com even though I live in Canada.  I sell to Europe, so I went to the U.K.  ebay and did an advanced search and clicked on "items available to the U.K. and my bear showed up.  I think it's all in how you search for them, but they don't tell you that you must have a Ph.D!  LOL!

I was just trying to figure out if UK collectors will see bears listed on ebay.com and not co.uk.  Did you ever manage to figure this out Jenny or anyone else?  I am never sure if UK people see my bears when listed in the artist OOAK section on .com.

As Vicki says (not this ebay bear, but usually) I list under the same as herself. Only trouble is its two lots of fees! Cheeky! I still think its hit and miss under what people look for.
