Teddybears SwedenI use Copic Markers to do shading... but what do you guys use? Are there any other great pens that are similar to Copic Markers??
Pumpkin & Pickle BearsI have some Marvy Le Plume pens which I have used occassionally, but I must say that my favourite way of shading is using oil paints.
Flying Fur StudiosI use prismacolor markers. They are AWESOME, but deadly expensive. 
Past Time BearsI also use Prismacolors. The cheapest place I've found them is www.carpediemstore.com. The amount I save more than pays for the shipping costs.
BrisbaneI use copic markers...but I also have used watercolour pencils if I want very subtle shading.

I also bought my markers at Micheals with my 40% off coupon. Might as well make the best of those.
Posts: 8,574I like the prism....didn't get them on sale.....we don't have stores here, unless you count the package beverage store and the grocery store.
But they seem to work really well. I also have the Micro Pigma...pretty good and the Y&C Fabricmate...they are also pretty good.
I know it is expensive but what I have and hard to do right off the bat, but try different ones for different applications-and see what you like. But if I could only have one? I would go with the Prisma....

I have used Copic markers in the past but I just find they go on too heavy and it's hard to build up the colour slowly. So on my larger bears, I use an airbrush and acrylic paints watered down. However I am still learning and tend not to use the airbrush for smaller accents as my hand is not yet steady enough.
I have just made four 7 inch pandas and wanted to subtly shade around their eyes and a little on the snout...I certainly didn't trust myself with the airbrush and may just have blasted their little heads off! :crackup:
I had been meaning to try the oil painting method that Shelli shared with us quite a while back and so I bit the bullet and did it. I was very pleased with the results as the paint is easy to build up SLOWLY.
If you go to the Tips nad Tricks archives and seach for painting bears, the threads are all there describing the process in detail...it really is very easy! Thank you Shelli!

PottersHouse BearsWhen I am making a distressed, antique looking bear I use shoe polish. I can brush it in around the eyes to shade that area or I can use it to give a "dirty" worn look elsewhere. I will keep the markers in mind though, because I have a new pattern running through my head (I just have to get it out of there). I want to do a fat, cuddly bear cub.

I think experimenting is a great way to find out what works best for you. I have used Copic for hand details(not airbrushing), oils, Prisma Markers, and acrylic piants for airbsuhing.
What I really like about Prisma markers is they are not heavy so you can apply a very faint or light layer and keep adding more layers and other colors to achive some really nice details and effects.

Teddybears SwedenMany thanks for all your nice ideas! I have only used Copic Markers and I think they work really fine! The thing is that they are kind of hard to find to a good price here in Sweden. But I guess I have to keep importing them... or maybe try some of your techniques! They really sound interesting! Thanks!
