*UPDATE*

Well, after a long series of x-rays, a chiropractic adjustment, a test for Lyme Disease, a huge bill and 3 hours of worrying while I left Tucker at the vet's, we have a diagnosis.

The cartiledge in his right hip socket is 'injured' for lack of a better description. Moving his leg/hip in a certain way causes friction which causes the yelping and also inflamation. The original injury could have been from rotating that hip the 'wrong' way. The vet is all but certain that Tuck also has arthritis in that hip... at 2 yrs old!!! Meaning that he'll continue to have trouble as time goes one and will likely need surgery much younger than most dogs. He went on further to say that Tucker has shallow hip sockets... not normal and could present additional problems in the future. No, none of this is hip dysplasia.

So, it's wasn't the sitter, wasn't the 'rug' incident, wasn't anything we would have imagined. I'd been wanting this to be a medical problem as I couldn't deal with another mental 'issue' but I got more than I bargained for!!

No agility for Tucker!  bear_sad
He's on an anti-inflamatory for now.
In order to ge the x-rays they wanted they have to give Tucker a pretty heavy sedative. The poor guy is so dopey and uncomfortable. It hurts too much to lay down, he only wants his mommy and she's so heart broken cause she can't fix this. I guess I should be happy he doesn't have a more severe problem though.

Thank you all for your advice!!

I'm so glad I listened to the voice in my head and of those of you who suggested I get him checked out just in case!

Hugs from me, Kisses from Tucker,
Daphne

what an AWESOME dogmama you are to really sleuth out the problem! He's
a lucky boy. Well it sounds fixable - is this a thing that glucosamine & chondroitin
might help? I know those get good results with achy joints.

Agility might be out, but maybe he could do something like tracking? That could be fun too!

bear_sad Oh Daphne, I'm so sorry poor sweet Tucker is suffering such pain, but at least you know, and this vet  sounds very thorough and knowledgable. I hope there's some therapy, maybe glucosamine and muscle-building, that can strengthen that joint.

Jeannie's right--he's very lucky to have a Mom who cares so much. But those vet bills are killers--we just paid another biggie to have 3 fatty tumors removed from little Dana's elbows and chin, and to have her teeth cleaned.

I was hoping it was the rug.

Yes, the vet suggested this as well. I'm heading off to the health food store in just a bit as a matter of fact.

As for being a good doggy mom....... I'm just doing what comes naturally. I'm an overprotective, overly sympathetic, worry-wort of a mom who can't stand to see her furry guys unhappy in anyway and fusses over them way too much! That's probably why they are so neurotic!!!!!!  bear_wacko  Good thing we don't have human kids!!

Oh Daphne, I'm SO glad you got a diagnosis on this!  At least now you know what's truly going on, and with a head start, you can help slow the arthritis.  Such a shame about his hips, though.....another case of being behind the genetic 8 ball.  Tucker's soooo lucky to have you for a mom.  bear_thumb
