alison-005.jpgalison-006.jpgThis is Curly, named so because he carries his tail over his back.  He is one of 5 cats I have taken in.  These cats were kept in small cages.  They were neutered and were being fed, but they were never given any freedom.  Curly and his brother, Grayson, are almost 2 years old, and have never been outside of a cage until now.  The other 4 cats have adjusted extremely well to living in and around our barn.  However, Curly has had problems making the change.  He became very thin and extremely withdrawn.  We were able to catch Curly (wearing leather gloves) and bring him inside.  He is now living in the sunroom and is beginning to come around.  He is now coming out of the corner where he has stayed hidden.  This morning he actually wanted me to pet him.  I know he looks evil in the second picture, but he is actually talking to me.  Curly and Grayson are both very vocal.  So after much concern and worrying, I think Curly is going to make it.

He was kept in a cage for 2 years??!! The poor cat... bear_cry

Isn't his tail funny?  bear_tongue

I hope he becomes friendly - I'm sure he will with your love and affection.

Are you keeping him?

Call me crazy, but I am keeping all 5 of the cats.  Curly's brother has become over affectionate.  He will not let you walk past without petting him.  Yes, these cats were confined to small cages all of their lives.

He is a lovely cat Millie.I am sure he will come to you eventually.Maybe he feels a bit more secure being indoors as after being shut away for two years being outside was a bit too much for him.He will probably go outside when he feels ready.Keep up the good work with him as I am sure it will be worth it in the end. bear_thumb

Millie,
There's got to be a special place in Heaven for you! What a sad story. Cats are such intelligent, adventurous creatures. Those cages most have been sheer Hell for them! Be patient with Curly. Because they're so intelligent, cats can make amazing recoveries and changes in personality as they learn who they can trust. Maybe some gentle stretching exercises will help Curly's tail? It will give you an excuse to get closer to him and allow him to trust you?

Millie,
Thank goodness for people with hearts as big as yours.  It breaks my heart to see what people will do to animals.  I'm sure Curly will settle down, once he realizes you will always be there for him.  Give him a snuggle for me, will you please!  Thanks!

                                       hugs,

bear_cry  Oh, blessings to you for taking on these creatures that need you bear_innocent   bear_innocent  Curly's back end almost looks like a bunnies the way he is standing and holding his tail. Keep us posted on the progress of your five new furry friends.  bear_wub

For now Curly is a house cat.  He will probably be like most of my other cats, that is in and out of the house.  We live on six acres, so they have plenty of room to play outside.  At last count I am feeding 15 cats.  Some of these are ones that just show up wanting a meal, and they get one from me.  My sister has a small rescue group, so she does help with food on occasion.  But I love my animals, and that's just the way I'm made.  I will be there for them.  They also repay many times over.  They are wonderful company.
