fall-005.jpgfall-006.jpgThere was a discussion a while back about doing something different, out of character for you.  Well, I did it.  This is my "out of character" panda.  It is not named yet, and is possiblly not completed (accessories etc.) yet.  I know my usual bear is the old, tattered look.  I just decided I wanted to do something totally different.  I was wanting to make something fat and furry.  So this is what I came up with.  This panda is made of mohair with hand painted eyes and a waxed nose.  A few weeks ago I was canning beets and looked at the water thinking what a beautiful color.  I grabbed a piece of mohair and threw it in the water.  When I took it out of the water it was a beautiful, blood red.  When I rinsed the mohair, it became a beautiful blonde.  I thought "There are girls who would kill for this color of hair".  So that is how I got the color for this panda.  I must admit I'm not sure if and when I will sell it.  Actually, my daughter may end up stealing this one.  I know this will not be the only fat and furry I will do.

I was totally shocked by the color from beets also.  When I began rinsing the mohair, I couldn't believe my eyes.  I will be making more of these bears.  I was going through some of my small "scraps" and found a piece of alpaca big enough for this pattern.  So, guess what, I have a bear to cut out.  I will have to sift through the rest of my stash for other goodies.  This bear making thing is so much fun.
