I know that most creative people find many outlets or ways to express themselves. I've heard some mentioned in other threads on this site; basket weaving, painting, drawing, gourd carving, sculpting, graphic design, cake decorating etc.

I wondered if folks would like to share pictures of other types of artwork that they do.

Anyone?

Hi Tami!!!!  Well... i love just about anything that has to do with needle work... crochet and needle tatting especially... I won't post any pics since as most of you know many of my bears have tiny little crochted or needle tatted accents... just peek in my phototrail...

But... I do also make tiny little sculpted baby faeries from time to time.  Mostly just by special order now, as the bears take up the vast majority of my "Play Time"....

Oh... I forgot... I finally did decide to start taking ballet class again!  THAT has just been marvelous therapy for the soul!

Oh Kim

, your little ones simply took  my breath away.  How gorgeous.  So many of the 'reborns' have kind of ugly little faces, but your little angels are so special and so beautiful so truly magical....sigh....you are an artist.

you mean like a life outside of bears and gollies?  Does this happen?

I play piano and I cook.

The cooking makes sense since I don't want to eat....so I watch the food network for something good and then make it.  And because when I most need to eat properly I least feel like it, I make a whole bunch of whatever it is at a time, but slightly undercook it.  Then package it in single serving packets ready for the microwave or  toaster oven. 

I tried lean cuisen and those other frozen things, but they just don't taste as good as home made, and when you re-heat meat can be so tough......so I make my own tv dinners. 

Its nice for the hubby too because when I am punky I don't have to worry about him getting something healthy.

Can't really share this, unless everyone wants to come to dinner....which is fine but there are so many of us we'll have to do it in shifts, and I hope you all like vegys because I am heavy into vegys....gotta have those vegys....lot-n-lots

Also heavy into garlic, onions and fresh herbs.....fresh herbs make all the differance.....

Re: Piano...well buy LangLang's latest CD Memories and you'll see what I wanted to play like.  He's fantastic.

But its OK that I'm not as good....because I really know the music he plays and he just plumb makes me giggle to hear him play it like it was nothing.....and I thought the world ended the day Rubinstein died....nope.....we can all breathe easily again....the classical piano continues to live on.......

well, back to stuffing....not a turkey a golly....

Cool topic, Tami!

I do graphic design and keep up my website and that of my husband, and I do the occasional scrapbook page.  On an entirely new and different note,  I've recently started making glass beads (lampworking.)  I still need practice, practice, practice with the last one!  Still working on it! Will post pics once I can do so without humiliating myself.

Kim, your baby fairy is wonderful! I'm in awe!I really enjoyed checking out your website too! Scuplting is a passion of mine too, which I wish I had more time for! I'm relatively new at it and I  can't improve if I don't DO it!

Dilu, Cooking and playing piano are talents I only dream about! Making music seems like magic to me. When I was teaching 6th grade a boy brought his violin to school for an after school class. He started to play before the bell rang and my normally rowdy, and loud homeroom sat in open mouthed wonder at the beautiful "noise" he was making. I wished I had that magic power every day!

Shelli, I can't wait to see your lampwork! How did you get into doing that?

Actually, I do silk flower arranging. Spent a good deal of today doing that for harvest/fall decorations for my house. I used to work at a florist and learned all kinds of tricks. It's a lot of fun!

I also quilt. Wall hangings, teddy bear sized quilts, table runners, etc mostly as I don't have the patience to do the big quilts. I also make curtains and dog beds!

Wow, what a talented bunch you all are.

I have dabbled in a few things crafty, quilts,cross-stitch but I mostly love my garden.  After bears of course.

I have dabbled in just about everything...cross stich, pencil drawing, wall murals, soft dolls, sculpture.....now I really just do the bears...

Denise, your garden is SUPERB!  I'm so jealous.  It seems I am allergic to every stinking thing that grows.  We put in some roses and lavender and thyme over the weekend and I am covered in some yukky cauliflower-ish rash.  Totally bleech, that.  So between that and the rye grass that self-seeds in my lawn -- I'm more allergic to that than anything else! -- and the bajillion degree temps here in Chico for about 40% of the year, my garden is a sad thing, indeed.  Making me all the MORE impressed by the spectacular look of YOURS!   Wow! What's that white weeping flower, a wisteria of some kind?  Just glorious.

Tami... you're giving Judi a right start, I'd imagine, with that great tiger of yours.  What a beautiful watercolor.  And your Santa is lovely.

Kim B... I see things like this wee faerie and I'm just awed.  So eensy-cute!

Tami and Kim... oh my gosh!!!  Those are just fabulous!!!!

I also envy anyone who has a beautiful garden (I get bored with watering by July) and also flower arranging... that is truly another art!

I enjoy photography (used to do pets and cars professionally) and now (thanks to Shelli!) I love digital scrapbooking... just hard to find time to do it!

I'm moving... to your house! I can only dream of my gardens ever looking so beautiful. I'd also like to know what that tree is with the white weeping flowers. It's so pretty!

Can you believe that around here farmers plant that rye grass intentionally!?!?!?! Something about it keeping the dirt from blowing once the the fields have been harvested and that it's good for the soil and can be tilled back in come spring. I was like you when I was a kid..... if I even looked at grass, trees, flowers etc. I'd break out in a rash. Never mind the sinus issues! Made playing with the other kids a drag and the allergy shots.... ugh! The needles were BIG back then! (Yeah, like I'm a hundred now!) Anyway, you have my empathy!

I love to work in the yard also but don't have any beautiful pictures to share...especially after seeing Aleta's beautiful garden and now Denise's....sheesh.

I love to quilt but haven't done much lately.  Here are a few photos of some I did about 4 years ago...ignore the girl...just look at the quilt.  HA

A quilt I made for a friend's daughter who loves butterflies.  These are just a few of the blocks.  I then embroidered antennaes on each block before quilting it.

This is my daughter's quilt I made for her about 5 years ago.  We had fun just buying wild fat quarters.  The back is lime green.  The dog is my golden retriever Chloe who loves the camera!!

Ignore the kid....the quilt in the background I made for my ex-mother-in-law for Christmas 4 years ago. 

These were the only digital photos I could find.  I've made many many more quilts.  I love them...can't have enough quilts to snuggle up wherever I happen to be.

I seem to be one post behind here!!! And really should be finishing up a bear I'm working on but it's so much fun to see everyone's pictures! Gorgeous quilts, Shantell! I agree one can never have too many quilts... kind of like bears!!!

  Daphne, I was thinking the exact same thing when I looked at that!!! I really would love to do that too, I don't have time for all the other things I do! The photos and scrapbook pages are really wonderful though, Laura!

Denise your garden is GLORIOUS! I bet you could just sit at that little table and troubles would melt away!

Shantell, what lovely quilts! I especially like the one you made for your daughter. BTW is that lovely child in the photo your daughter?

Yep...that's my daughter, Erienne....she would have just turned 16 there...she's now 19...almost 20.  Gosh time goes by so fast!!!

Thanks for the compliments....I've done some really cools quilts that I wish I had kept...isn't that always the case.  I love wild funky colors and soft romantic prints.  I just go nuts in a good quilt shop.  It's so addicting!!!   Good thing there isn't any mohair shops in my neck of the woods.   :crackup:   :crackup:

Spring is a wonderful time in the garden...   That white weeping thing is a Wisteria.
The little white 4 legged canine is our 16 year old maltese cross Tuppence..

My son-in-law gave the Wisteria to me as a cuttingabout 7 years ago and the perfume at night in the backyard is devine.

Sorry to hear about the rashes and sneezes..

The body tells me when I have done too much gardening but yes to sit outside of an afternoon with a white or maybe a red is very satisfying.
Troubles do melt away and just happy thoughts drift in...

everyone here is so clever.....I'm in awe of anyone who can create such breathtaking little beings like Kim, and well, anyone who can garden is a hero in my book!  Tami, that Santa is amazing.

I've played around with all sorts of crafts...and have many ufos stashed away in my wardrobe.  I love to make greeting cards.  I will take some photos to share sometime.

Today I just took posession of a sewing machine today....primarily for stitching on my cards/scrapbooks but I really want to do some patchwork.  My mum teaches quilting but she lives in the South Island, so I don't get to take lessons from her.  I've made a few little quilt tops but I'm dying to do more.  Watch this space....

Wow it's just amazing the amount of talent here and all in such different ways!!

I dabble in a lot of things..quilting, cross stitch, embroidery and cloth dolls..This is the only one I can find on the computer!!

I make breast and colon cancer medication. Does that count as a craft? It sure is difficult and time consuming! I have to count that because I do nothing else beside work and make bears.

Jane,

Our cancer medications are made up of proteins that typically work by blocking receptors that keep the cells from reproducing (spreading cancer) or allowing allergic reactions (such as asthma triggered by allergies). So my everyday work involves taking care of the cells that contain these proteins. We make sure the cells are at the correct pH, temperature, getting oxygen etc. I am basically a farmer on a cellular level.

We now make proteins to treat Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, Breast Cancer, Colorectal Cancer, Age Related Macular Degeneration and many more. It is a very exciting time.

And... drumroll please... I just got promoted! I am the new supervisor in our department. I have been so excited all week!

Shantell those are lovely quilts!!!  I love quilts... but don't have the patience....

As for the digital scrapbooking.... I only dabble cause I really do NOT have time.  But as a former photographer I felt it was something I should at least TRY to do  :crackup:   I have Adobe Photoshop Elements (the first version) and learned more about using it when Shelli was teaching us about using it to make ACT's.  THen I took Nancy's ACT class and I learned more about design.....and found these AWESOME digital scrapbooking supplies here:  (Daphne & Tami, don't look!    )
