SunshineDTC2006.jpgSunny-Jim-head-DTC2006.jpg.... ATTENTION!!

Not sure if I'm misbehaving by popping this in 'General' rather than 'showcase', but thought I would as more TT'ers seem to hang out in this neck of the woods and it is for a good cause after all!

So, to business:

DARE TO CARE 2006

Every couple of years I'm daft enough to organise a charity auction in aid of the 'National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children'.  The NSPCC does vital work to secure the safety of vulnerable children and I'm proud to do my bit to help.  Hence 'Dare to Care'.  It's a project I set up through 'British Bears on the Net' http://groups.yahoo.com/group/britishbears/ which is the online chat group I run.

So, as I was saying, usually we have a big Ebay auction to raise funds for the NSPCC and it's crazy hard work!  The bears are sent to my home, I photograph them, climb over the boxes for months and then upload all the details to Ebay and bingo, the auction goes live!  After which comes the torment of ensuring safe passage for all the bears as they make their way to excited new owners.

In the past this has been a terrific success, but owing to personal pressures this year, I've been unable to take up the reins of running DTC2006.  I was worried about letting everyone down but fortunately, the wonderful editor of the Teddy Bear Scene magazine Kathy Martin, came to my rescue by offering to host the auction as a silent auction in the December issue of the magazine!  Dare to Care 2006 is now back on track and raring to go!  I'm delighted!

This time, my involvement is simply to make and donate a teddy bear.  Et voila!!  'Sunny Jim' will be accepting silent bids in the December 2006 issue of Teddy Bear Scene magazine, alongside his co-DTC2006 bears.  These teddy bears are all donated by members of the British Bears on the Net group (please, no offers of further bears!)

The relevant Teddy Bear Sene magazine is on sale from November 2006.  For further details please contact Kathy through the TBS website at www.teddybearscene.co.uk

I do hope you will consider purchasing a copy of this great magazine and if you are able, placing a bid on one of these special bears.  This is our chance to give back something through our love of teddy bears and let's face it, who better to support than vulnerable children?

Thanks everyone!!  bear_thumb

Your bear is positively beautiful!  I wish you the best with your charity auction.  I must say that it is so sad that we have to even have such a charity.  We need a charity for prevention of cruelty to children?  What a shame.  It seems almost impossible to imagine someone being cruel to a child, but it happens all around us.  I think that we have slapped too many wrists for too long.  We need to get tough on these creeps that do this.  OK I'm off my soapbox now.  Thank you so much for working for such a wonderful cause.

Thanks for taking the time to read this thread Millie.  I'm glad you like the bear - I'm really hoping he does his bit for the NSPCC.  As you say, it's such a shame we need the NSPCC in this day and age, but sadly we do.  That soapbox is important, so don't get off for too long ... as long as people care enough to shout out, we can still do some good to help abused children.

Good Luck with the auctions Paula, he is a fabulous bear as usual. Reminds me of lemon curd for some reason - yummy perhaps?

Hi Chloe, the auction is held by 'British Bears on the Net' members, so all the bears will be BBN bears.  I'm afraid I can't remember if you are a member or not, but if not and you would like to find out more, please pop along to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/britishbears/ which is our little corner of the internet!  New members are always welcome!

Dare to care is held once every couple of years, so plenty of time to start planning for the next one!  bear_happy

Penny, those crackers should do the trick I reckon ... now I'm going to have to hunt some out too .... I'm having a craving!!

He's gorgeous!!  What a warm and sunny fellow and for such a good event.  Good luck with his auction, I'm sure he will earn lots for this worthy cause.

Did you dye his fur that color?  It's lovely!!  We have a baby coming into the family soon and I'd love to use a fur like that for a "first special teddy". (Not to be played with until much older of course!!)

Thanks Chrissi - lovely to hear that you like him.  I didn't hand dye the fabric, it's German Schulte which I bought from Edinburgh Imports.  The colour is wonderfully vibrant!
