So....what does it mean when it's a full moon (or just past) and a black cat shows up at your front door?

Tonight is just past a beautiful Harvest Moon here in my neck of the woods. I went outside to enjoy watching it rise above the mountains this evening and from across my front lawn came running a skinny scrawny black cat....talking 100 miles an hour demanding my attention.  Well being a lover of furry faced critters I scooped her (I think...I didn't take a good look) gave her a snuggle, brought her in the house, opened a can of white tuna, gave her a snack...she's talking the entire time looking at me with pleading greenish yellow eyes....she ate...and then proceeded to crawl into my lap, curl up and go to sleep.

What is the universe telling me?

Better watch out... word is going to spread (especially with that chatter box around! bear_laugh ) and all the hungry (for food or love) cats are going to be coming to your house!!!!

At least they've found the right person with a huge heart for all things furry! bear_original

I think I remember that if a black cat comes to your house, it's good luck.  Bad luck if one crosses in front of you.  And, bad luck if a white cat comes to your house.   I don't believe in superstitions, but that's what I heard.

However a full moon?  I think everybody is a little out of sorts.   When I was a respiratory therapist, the hospital emergency room was always busier on a full moon night.  bear_wacko

I've heard that about emergency rooms before.  When I worked at a college in the counseling office, we could always tell when it was a full moon.  :)

I need another stray cat like I need a hole in my head...couldn't the powers that be send me something like....a cute little puppy (potty trained).   bear_happy

This little ones IS just the biggest chatterbox...with beautiful greenish yellow eyes.  Very sweet...dangit here I go...20 minutes and I'm already smitten... bear_wub   bear_wub    Is there a vaccination for this?

A black cat is good luck, and especially when the cat choses a home during a full moon.  Today is the 7th, and your cat is probably the 7th kitten of a 7th kitten, seven being a lucky number.  A chatty cat who turns up out of nowhere is generally the returning spirit of a loved one who could not stay away, and has come back in cat form to comfort and protect you. Greenish yellow eyes indicate high intelligence.

  Aw, c'mon! Even if there was a vaccine, you wouldn't take it. Thank heavens she found you before Halloween gets started! All kidding aside, the way this one arrived makes me suspect you have a very special fur person on your hands. Who knows, you may "need" this kitty. It certainly needs you!

Fascinating...I suspected she was sent for good luck...and if I didn't know better I'd think she was my MOTHER...kinda bossy & gossipy...HA HA

She was still here this morning...and I think she's taken over Skippy's bed because poor Skippy was giving her scathing looks this morning and glaring at the bed.  So I have a for Halloween...a black cat, a pumpkin (Skippy), a ghost (Surrender) and a Queen (Samech).   Now to make sure she doesn't belong to one of my neighbors (the closest being about 1/2 mile away) and come up with a cool name...NO NOT LUCKY!!!

I've gone batty!!!

Oh Shantell, another kitty?  I do think there is a grapevine that passes on info to cats in need LOL!   You are obviously at the top of the "try this house" list   The cat sounds wonderful - is it a male or female.  My guess is male, but I'm curious.  I looooooove black cats - we have had 6 black cats over the years and still have one left - Bear.  He's my favourite cat ever - 22 lbs of the gentlest cat ever created. Bear1.jpg

Remember the two kittens my sister found after they had been thrown out of a car?  Well, they kept them and they are doing fantastic.  Only two minor problems - they were probably taken away from mom way to early as Sophie spends all night sucking on my sister's earlobe!  It's driving her nuts and is looking for a solution.  Tinker, the black one, cries constantly if he can't be with my sister, so she has made a sling that she puts him in, so he can sleep and she can still work.  They are the luckiest kittens alive.  The three older male cats just love them, so they are staying!

Oh, before I forget, how did you make out with getting Skippy to the vet or is she still alluding you?  She is one smart cookie!

Brenda...Bear is gorgeous.  I love black cat.  This kitty is a female (checked a couple times to make sure...   ) and is actually very very dark brown.  Her undercoat is medium brown but the ends of her hair are dark brown making her look blackish...very pretty.  She is quite the snugglebug and just flops in my arms.  I was packing her around this morning looking a flowers and she just let me pick out those icky burs out of her fur and didn't even flinch...in fact she purred the whole time and some of them where pretty matted.   I've gotten a couple photos of her but they aren't very good...she thinks she needs to be IN my lap or arms when I'm outside.  Definitely a young cat probably barely a year.  <sigh>

She's just the sweetest little girl...I sure hope she doesn't belong ot anyone....shhhhhhhhhh...I didn't really say that.

Skippy....well she's still not made it to the vet.  And, she's still pissed off at me for trying the first time.  I get scathing looks from her if I get too close.  She's a smart little cookie.  I'm hoping she doesn't come into season again for awhile so I can build up her trust again....THEN...off she goes.   Thanks for asking about her.  She's doing very well otherwise.

Hugs,
Shantell

P.S.  Sophie & Tinker are so cute all snuggled up.  My grandmother had a cat that did the earlobe sucking thing...never broke himof it.  He's suck on anything...earlobes, blankets, clothes anything...she named him Nuisance...and he was.

Hmm, maybe Skippy is too apt a name. Maybe you could temporarily call her Sluggish, or at least Sterile!   Shall I bring over my friend's traquilizer dart gun? On Safari: today we hunt the wiley Skippy....

HA...maybe we need a HARPOON.  Skippy is REALLY mad now...she does not like the little black kitty who could care less.  It's hysterical...Skippy does this peeking around things to watch what's going on and then just send me daggers with her eyes.  I keep telling her to stop being so snooty and get her butt "over here" and get some snuggling...I just get more cat daggers.

Talk about a hormonal old woman...

I'm off to call the vet and HS to report little Missy Black Thang as "FOUND".

She sounds beautiful. I hope you can get a good pic of her so we can see! And those Skippy Daggers! HA! Silly cat! She's just very jealous.. it wasn't long ago that SHE was getting ALL of your attention!

I hope she belongs to no one but YOU!!!! Fingers are crossed!

I figured out why Skippy is so mad....this little thing has taken over Skippy's little bed.   I'd be mad too!!!

I hadn't even thought of burmese...you may be correct.  Although in the sun you can see "tabby" markings.  She's quite skinny and you can feel her little bones but with as much as she's eating she'll be fattened up in no time.  I do suspect she's been injured as she walks with a limp and swings on of her back legs in a funny old stiff woman fashion when she walks.  She's just a love bug.  Although Skippy is  quite annoyed with her, last night they did the whole sniffing thing without hissing.

Cats...still no name.  I am however considering calling her Slinky...as she kind of slinks around.

Hi Shantell,
What a cutie pie - maybe she is part Burmese which could account for the lovely brown coat.  You'll just have to get another bed for Skippy - winter's coming you know and you can't ruffle her feathers too much as she was there first.  What about Surrender?  Is he still around?  Does he like to sleep in the bed or is he more of a roamer?  If you get a few more beds for the cats to sleep and line them up on your porch, you'll look like an orphanage
