Hi,

I just came across a topic about Kool-Aid dying mohair. As Kool-aid Isn't really in the UK (well at least I havn't seen any) I was wondering what kind of colors are what? I have found a website what Supplies Kool-Aid in the UK.  But without ever seeing, I have no idea what colour it is!

The website is www.koolaidUK.com If you'd help me choose what tones of colours the "Original Kool Aid" are.

Thank you again,

Richy~

Edit: Also can you dye Synthetic fabrics with Kool-Aid?

fw250x250TT.jpgsprites4fourAAsmall.jpgI have used kool-aid on white mohair. Here are some of my results. Yellow-lemon,  Blue - Berry Blue, Pink-Pink Lemonade. I couldn't get the purple I wanted with kool-aid, so the purple one is dyed with rit.
My green Frankenweiner was dyed with Lemon-lime. The colors come out very vivid. I have purchased orange and strawberry but haven't tried them yet.

I used some Quench Aid on some mohair. I dyes one piece with 'mandarin' and it came out, well...mandarin! Was a bit too bright for my liking actually! I also used 'Grape which came out a lovely lilac/pink colour. I used some Pink Lemonade Kool Aid on this bear...came out a lovely colour but I wasn't pleased with the bear!!!......

Dying with Kool-Aid is so fun and smells so good too! I have never dyed mohair with Kool-Aid though. I use Kool-Aid for dying yarns like angora and cashmere. Here's a link that has directions for using Kool-Aid on yarn, but it also includes a color chart of the dyed yarns. http://www.knitty.com/issuefall02/FEATdyedwool.html
I'm sure you would get very similar results with your mohair. If a certain color is brighter or darker than what you're looking for, just use a lesser amount of Kool-Aid. As for synthetics, my guess would be that it doesn't work. My understanding is that it will only work on protein fibers, those found in animal hair. It would work on your hair too! bear_laugh Once on David Letterman, there was a woman who put Kool-Aid in a spray bottle and sprayed her dog's white fur. Needless to say, he was very colorful! Have fun experimenting! bear_original

Gemma, I think your bear is adorable!

I have used Kool Aid several times.  I don't follow the normal procedure usually (I was always one who wanted to color outside the lines just to see what it looked like).  I used one of the new flavors of Kool Aid and just put the pieces of the bear in a bag without any prep.  I left it about 20 minutes and never squished it around or separated the pieces.  It came out with a white backing and pastel green tips on the hair.  It was quite pretty.

Nancy D : Thank you very much for the pictures. I think I will try them out! They are very vivid colours arn't they!

Pumpkin & Pickle Bears: If you are talking about Pink Champagne, She is just adorable! I love her. You will want to see my first bear, all peices cut, Just waiting on the cotter pins. Believe me, Wont be a touch on her  bear_original

Sandi.S.: Thank you. I am also waiting on my first needle felting kit from the same place as the cotter pins so It will be usefull to dye the roving also! Thank you so much for the colour chart it is fantastic!!!

millie: I am looking for a more softer colours, Like a tint of orange or a tint of lemon.... I think I will leave it in not quite as long as you guys do!

Thank you again everyone!

Yes, you can shorten the time you leave the fabric in the dye.  Also, I have used just a partial pack of Kool aid at times.  It's fun to play around with it and see what you end up with.
