I'm not sure if they even exist but does anyone know of anywhere that sells clear sewing machine feet? I have a vintage Singer 99K - I love the machine more than words can express but I find that the foot sort of 'gets in the way' when I'm trying to achieve a nice neat seam allowance.....a clear foot would be great (if they exist!) as I like to do small seam allowances so mistakes are easily made when I can't see the edge of the mohair with the metal foot in the way!

Thanks in advance!!

Boy are you taking me back a few years.  Yes they exist, probably 30 years ago I had one for my old machine.  I did a quick google for clear sewing machine foot and found plenty.  My guess would be that any sewing machine shop or even a fabric store would carry them.  That is a good idea.  I stole Shelli's method and use the zipper foot when I need to see the edge better.

Gemma, I've got several clear feet, one of them open-toed, for my Janome. I also love my 1/4-inch quilting foot, where I just slam the fabric edge right against the metal guide and get the same seam allowance (1/4 inch) all around. That one is not so good for narrow turns though. A clear extra short applique foot gets me around those curves and turns.

Thank you so much girls...at least I know they DO exist!!!!

I would have felt like a fool if they didn't exist and I went into my sewing machine shop saying 'could you please point me in the right direction for the clear feet' ...could you imagine it!!!

Gemma.. I have a Pfaff 2044 machine and it has a clear foot, but to tell you the truth I hate it I could see what I was sewing much better with my 35yr old Brother machine with a open toed metal foot in fact it sewed better too...think I'll pinch it back off my mum... bear_grin

You should be able to find 'clear feet' - in the mean time - if you measure your seam allowance distance from the needle hole and fasten a piece of clear tape onto the base plate in this position - you'll feel the seam allowance with a barrier for your fabric.  I used to use this method to help children keep a straight line when learning use the machine.

Hope this helps.
