Thank goodness, Shantell, that it wasn't as bad as it could have been!  So glad Surrender will be coming home a healthier kitty and that the other felines probably won't get sick.  Yahoo!

Oh Shantell,
I just read this update, after sending you a PM.  I'm thrilled that Surrrender will not have to be euthanized and being neutered and vaccinated and all his booboos fixed is a super bonus.  Now you don't have to worry quite so much about Skippy.  They can go on playing "house" together.  Yeah!  You must be sooooo relieved. You will have to post a picture of him when he's all better.

                                                       hugs,

                                                       Brenda

All is well at Shantell's Cat House.  I picked up Surrender this morning and I really think he was happy to see me.   Hardly made a peep in the car.  He's in the garage and my housemate is trying to coax Skippy in the house, down the hall, through mudroom and into the garage... I'm hiding in the office with the little chocolate kitty who has found a quilt to curl up on and peer out the window.

The vet said that Surrender is a Flame Point Siamese and possibly even purebred.  Even in his current condition he weighs a hefty 10+ pounds and in his youth probably weighed closer to 15-18 lbs.  She said if we can get him and keep him healthy he could easily get back to that weight or more...he's a BIG BOY.

Two more kitties off to the vet on Monday.  Then...it's SKIPPY's turn even if I have to take a tranquilizer gun to her.  :)

Thanks for all the well wishes for Surrender...he needed them and surely got them.

Hugs,

Shantell,
I'm so glad Surrender is back and on the mend.  Wow, who would have thought he might be a purebred.  Max is puffing himself up as we speak, about his wonderful lineage LOL!  Really though, no wonder those kittens were so beautiful!

Did I read your post right - chocolate kitty in the office on a quilt?  What happened to "outdoor strays"?   Boy did those cats see you coming!

It will be wonderful when they are all fixed - you will have a much better chance at keeping then healthy.  A lot less fighting and no more unexpected kittens.  You and your housemate are big softees.  Who knows, maybe Skippy will mellow after she is fixed.  Give Surrender a big hug from me.

                                              hugs,

                                              Brenda

Andrea wrote: Being a cat person, I have 4 myself, all pains in the butts and all strays, I went out and purchaces a book called "The Cornell Book of Cats"  It's been writted by the faculty of the Cornell Feline Health Center at Cronell University.  It covers every inch of the cats body fron nose to tail and life span from kittenhood to old age, including emercency care and a great cross reference of illnesses and treatments.

Shantall: that is wonderful news about your kitty.

Andrea: That book you recommend looks great. I have three cats too and I will look for it on Amazon....thanks for posting it....

bear_original I've been swamped and sinking in midterm deadlines, but I had to check in to say how glad I am to hear that Surrender is doing alright.

Neutering is probably the best thing you could have done to prevent further health problems . . . though he did produce gorgeous kittens bear_cry

Our orange tabby Oscar is fiv positive. He probably got it from his mother at birth. We didn't find out until he'd broken the same leg twice, and it had to be amputated. No immune system left to heal it. He's doing fine, very happy living with daughter & son-in-law in a third floor apt where he romps around on the roof--they tried, but couldn't stop him.

The fiv might shorten Surender's life a bit, but he's not so likely to fight and spread it around once he's neutered.

Shantall:  I'm thrilled about your news bear_original , even though it's not all great, it must be such a relief!!!!!!!!  I feel relieved and he's not even my cat   bear_grin .  I have two questions.......how did you ever coax him into the carrier to get him to the vet?  And how on earth did you luck into getting  a flame point siamese????????????

The last cat we adopted.....I'm sorry I mean, the last cat who adopted us, was a Russian Blue, stunning.  We think that she was left behind by some 'city folk'  who were cottaging up this way....sad isn't it? bear_sad .  Of course after we, I mean, she decided to keep us we discovered she was pregnant!  She had a litter of 5 and we kept her and two kittens, one was a russion blue kitten and the other pure black!?
The other cat we adopted is a calico who was abandoned by our neighbours when they moved, rediculous I know....we even called them to tell them we had her and she was safe, they said they were coming right away to pick her up...........that was three years ago, they never showed!  Can you believe it?????????  Some people have no hearts at all.  What's worse is none the caloco and the russians don't get along at all, so we always have to keep them seperated.  Sigh, at least they all have a good home though.

Michelle, and anyone else who is interested inthe Cornell Book of Cats: the ISBN # is 0-679-44953-1.  It is published by "Villard Books" which is also part of "Random House"  If you have difficulty finding it on Amazon, the Random House web site is www.randonhouse.com
I hope you find it as useful as I have.

Lots of kitty hugs and kisses
