I have NEVER had this happen before...and I'm feeling rather stupid because I can't figure out what on earth I'm doing this time around but here it goes.
I'm setting eyes...as usual...but obviously I must being doing something out of the oridinary but what I haven't a clue. I get one eye in...set the other and then the original pops loose or semi loose from it's original position so they are no longer even in depth...what the heck?
HELP...now I've set a few eyes here...I'm not a novice...I'm feeling really STUPID STUPID STUPID!!!
I literally have made my fingers bleed from redoing this poor set of eyes. AUGH
Shantell, this happends to me, don't fret.
What I end up doing is changing the exit point. So instead of bringing the eye thread say out by the neck area, bring the thread thru to the back of the head. I think this happens bec. of angle and the stuffing. So I'm guessing anyway.
But don't worry, this has like happened to me a bunch of times
Shantell, don't worry these things happen. I had a bear this summer who's eyes I did probaly seven times!!! In the end he came out very cute and found a new mom at my show. I would have to know what method you use to set your eyes in to help with the problem. I find that artists have many different ways to do this....
Tami,
I use the method that Nancy Tillberg describes in her book 101 Bears exiting as close as possible to the neck disc as possible. I think that Heather may be on to something as I am using some different polyfil. I had not even thought of that. It's a bit "loftier" and even though I stuffed as firm as I normally do I wonder if it's shifting more...make sense?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...this poor little panda is blind at the moment...poor bear!!!
.....I could say the G work here.......
you'll get it....
gollyhugs

I have nancy's book and just flipped through it 4-5 times and I can't find anything outside of safety eyes and then eye sculpting, so I must be nuts...is it a full moon??
Without finding the exact way that your setting in the book I'll take a stab at helping anyway I can
Do you set one eye at a time, it sounded like you might be? I do both at the same time so there's even tension between the 2, tying each other down. Same concept of taking the threads out closest to the disk, so there's no visible "denting" where you knot and hide. Did that help at all?? I'm not sure......

I had to hunt for it too Chrissi...it's actually one of those sidebar thingymagig's...page 44...on the left.
I have prevailed....I'm not a stubborn SCORPIO for nothin!!!

So, what did you do, Shantell????
I've been having the same problem. I know why it happens and keep telling myself that if I needle sculpted the eye area BEFORE I put the eyes in it would solve my problems and there wouldn't be so much tension on the eyes.
I tried Chrissi's method once, ONCE, a while ago. It was a disaster. It seemed so simple. I've been thinking of trying it again though as this lopsided eye problem is once again becoming an issue for me too. I'll attempt it when I'm feeling coordinated which wouldn't be today!
But do tell, Shantell..... what did you do to make it work???? Hmmmmmm??????
Shantell, I use the same method as Chrissi, but before I do that I take some needle sculpting stitches to pull in the eye sockets. You can anchor these at the base of the neck or needle sculpt the mouth and eyes at the same time. I'm trying to think of how to descibe this... I guess you'll just have to come over and I'll show you!!!
I'm on my way......
Actually...that's EXACTLY what I did. I took a few needle sculpting stitches in the inner corners of the eyes to sink the eye sockets in and make more of bridge for the nose. Instead of securing each eye seperate I semi tied one then tied the other and got them even then secured them. I use to do it this way all the time and apparently need to go back to this method even though it is more cumbersome (for me anyway) and time consuming but the end result is better.
I need to practice needle scuplting more...it just takes me forever to do.
Tami, can I come too???
Great job Shantell  But....I guess that means you're not coming over....
You could still come just to hang out!
Daphne, that would be super!!!!! Come on down! (or over I guess)
Party at my house everyone! :bday:
I always sculpt the area first too.... then set the way I described above. I do it for the mini's and the bigger guys. If I didn't sculpt first, the amount of tension needed would rip my fingers apart...ouch!! There's still tension and it still pinches the ol' fingers, but it would be a ton worse without sculpting.

If I thought people wouldn't be afraid of them mine would have NO EYES and NO EARS.
