I'm not sure if anyone can help me with this but I am having trouble creating a hang tag....when I create the tag it is fine until I reduce the size to get it the right size ....then it goes all blurry....why is this and can I do anything to stop it, obviously I want a hang tag that people can read!  bear_grin

The only thing I can offer is this:

Create the graphic in the size you want it to begin with. Also, you might try saving the graphic in it's larger size as a .gif or .btmp. Jpeg files loose clarity and I've fought with this many times. Also, I have found that some elements, like borders for example seem to mess up the clarity but if I resize first, then add a border it's fine. Stupid, I know. I've done a lot of experimenting and still get absolutely ticked off at the whole thing from time to time! Another thought..... create your graphic in 300dpi!!!!

Hopefully someone else will have something more helpful to add. bear_original

Is it a .gif? you can't reduce .gifs or they get icky.
Save it in another format (.jpg, .psd or whatever) & then reduce it to print.

What program are you using, and what file type?  The answers above are correct, file type and dpi can both have effects on this.  Also, if you are using a basic Windows program (like Word) to manipulate the size of your image, sometimes it looks blurry on the screen but prints just fine.

I've been using photoshop to create the image, it is a jpeg, then I've been reducing the size of the completed tag to the size I want (still in photoshop). But when I import it to word it looks blurry on the screen and unfortunately it's still blurry when I print it out. The quality of the photo shouldn't be a problem as they are 300dpi or bigger.  I'm finding that all the elements (borders, text and photo are blurry)   bear_cry

Daphne do you mean that the borders mess up the clarity of the whole thing or just the border itself?? (silly question I know) bear_wacko

Check the library here, I remember someone posted exactly how to do a hang tag, I remember printing it out so that I could follow it step by step, although never tried it.

At the moment I am pulling my hair out trying to work with Adobe Photoshop, but I am determined that I will learn this application !!!!!!!!!!!!!grrrrrrrrr

There are quite a lot of things in this world that Word doesn't support (or doesn't support very well), so it's hard to say exactly what the problem is.

However, your best bet is either going to be to print directly out of Photoshop, or create the image in Photoshop the exact size you want it, so that when you insert the image in Word it does not need any re-sizing.  When you have text in an image, that text will be particularly unfriendly towards being resized without losing clarity.  Or as a third choice, just insert the photo that you want into a template in Word, then type your text directly into Word so that you're dealing with actual text and not an image of it.

Aren't computers fun?   bear_sad  bear_laugh

--- oops, editing here.  Just noticed that you said you were re-sizing in Photoshop.  How does the image look in Photoshop after you have re-sized it?  Blurry, or is it just inserting it into a Word document that makes it blurry?

You have my heart felt sympathy Sarahjane :cake:  cake is efinitely what is needed here.
Your questions are not silly. I have found that I have to send all my hangtags to one program in particular because it is the only one that will shrink to the size I want and it will show true size on screen.
So when I make a hangtag I usually use 4 different programs.
That's why in the end instead of sending myself stupid, I decided to commission the services of a professional to make my hangtag for me. ...Now I sit here with a self satisfied smirk.

I agree with printing it direct out of Photoshop - what are you doing to it in Word?

SarahJane,
Have you Microsoft Publisher?  If you have they have lots of different size tags and labels you can use.
I use the business card size. Originally I created two designs that I could print on the front and the back and then fold the tag in the middle. Now I use the business card size as it is.  Photos are easy to upload and resize and the printing is the same.
I only have the information I want on the front and then I laminate it.

Hope this helps you...
