I'm just back from an amazing night.   My daughter took me to see the musical "Wicked" at the Canon theatre in down town Toronto, for my birthday.  We used to go to the theatre a lot in Ottawa, but not very much since she has been married and in Toronto.  We enjoyed the Lion King three years ago, but I didn't know the story behind Wicked.

Well, it was completely and absolutely brilliant!  I can't say enough about it - the story is about Glinda, the Good Witch and The Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of Oz, while they were growing up.  I didn't know what to expect, except it has had rave reviews and has been extended for a month.  It was unbelievably good and I think that's because all the actors that were with the show on Broadway, were with the show in Toronto.  The story was delightful, funny, charmng, and packed full of surprises along with an amazing cast, so if anyone in the Toronto area is thinking of going to see it before it ends, for goodness sakes GO!  You won't regret it.  Oh, and I will never be able to watch the Wizard of Oz again without smiling. LOL!

The strangest part was hubby and I spent the whole day looking for Alternative CDs for our son with no success.  When we arrived downtown Toronto to see the musical, we see a huge HMV a block from the theatre and I got everything I had been looking for in one stop!

                                       hugs,

                                       Brenda

Hi Danni,
Yes, Sarah is pretty special and it's the one thing we both really enjoy doing together.  She is actually a sports nut and has more in common with her dad, but we both love the theatre.  We can't wait until our grandson is old enough to go.  There were quite a few children there tonight.
If you ever get a chance to see it, you have to go.  I'm still flying and can't even think of going to bed.  I just keep replaying it in my head.  It incorporates all these explanations for things in the story such as where the Tin Man cam from, and the Scarecrow and the Lion.  I won't tell the ending as I don't want to spoil it for anyone that might be going but it's got a lot of suprises! LOL!

                                             hugs,

                                             Brenda

It sounds positively delightful!  I've listened to the song Glenda the Witch sings while waiting in the movie theater for a movie to start, and its a riot    Not sure if it will come near to us or not, but I shouldn't wonder with as popular as it is if it does hop over to play in Oz.

...edited to say I'm so happy you had such a lovely birthday  bear_wub  :bday:

I was wondering about this show Brenda, i have read the reviews and it sounds wonderful - now i know it definitely is i will try and go and see it.................i always hated the nice witch (such a bad hair-do and annoyingly goody-goody) and loved the bad one (boy could she ride that broom and cackle). I used to get very upset when i watched the movie when i was kid and she got melted by water - it always made sense to me as i hated washing and used to pretend i was Melting everytime me mum threw me in the bath ha ha ha
I was a rotten kid.

I'm glad you had such a great time Brenda and thanks for the review  bear_thumb  bear_flower

Yes Clare, it's the one about the two witches, with one green one!  Penny, if you have always hated the good witch and liked the bad witch, then you REALLY have to see this musical.  Without giving anything away, you will come out of the theatre grinning from ear to ear, I PROMISE!  Even your hubby would enjoy it.
