Hello,

Hope you are all getting into the Festive spirit and got your trees up and are singing along to carols!

For christmas.. (well not for christmas day!) I wanted some bear making books. I been bought, Nancy Tillbergs - 101 Bears... OF COURSE! And also Ted Menten's Teddy Bear Studio: A Step-By-Step Guide to Creating Your Own One-Of-A-Kind Artist Teddy Bear. Quite a mouthfull yes?

I would like How to Make Enchanting Miniature Teddy Bears and heard it was good but can't souce it for UK shipping. Also The Video - The Art of Making Teddy Bers by Jennifer Laing. Also Creating Miniature Teddy Bears (International Artists' Designs) and The Complete Book of Teddy-Bear Making Techniques. Can you recommend any other good all round books like Pattern making Sculpting Scissor and needle... Just tips hints and treats of patterns would be great.

I would be most helpfull If you could give me any recomendations on the books mentioned or more books!

Thank you so much,

Merry Christmas,

Richy~ bear_original

I have 'The Encyclopedia of Teddy Bear Making Techniques' and 'Teddy Bear Art' by Jennifer Laing. I found them both very useful when starting out.

Have you considered doing an online course through Nancy Tillberg's website? I've done the Extreme Sculpting course and it was great - well worth the money!

Hi Richy,
You've got the books I would suggest  bear_original
I think I may have mentioned this before, but here's the thread for Shelia's class.  I'm not sure when her next class will be, but she's out here on TT so you might be able to PM her about it.   I took it years ago and enjoyed it very much. She's 100% available to your questions and her instruction is great.  (very good for beginners too)

Richy: I'm glad you got Nancy and Ted’s books. I love them both. Since you are asking for other recommendations here are few more to consider. If like miniature bears I recommend the following:

A Manual for making miniature teddy bears by Deb Cnahan
Making and Dressing miniature Teddy bears by Julie Owen
Making Teddy bears in Miniature by Angela Bullock
How to Make Enchanting Miniature Teddy Bears by Kesling

For Regular teddy bears I recommend the following books:

The Ultimate Handbook in making teddy bears by Linda Mullins
Whimsical Teddy Bears by Neysa Phillippi
Complete Book on Teddy Bear Making Techniques
How to make award winning teddy bears by Michael Ray and Janet Vivieros
The ABCs of Making Teddy Bears- Linda Mead
Teddy Bears How to Make Them - by Hutchings

If you are looking for books in your country and can't find them, go to a large well known book store and ask them to order it for you. I did that once with Barnes and Noble. They had to order the book for me from the UK. It is worth a try.

For sculpting, I understand Nancy Tillberg has an online course where you can print out the course for reference. I hear it is very good. I might take it in the future.  Here is the link to look at the courses she offers:

Hope this give you some ideas
