Hi guys. I just have to ask if any one on this forum has a memory foam topper for their bed. I have trouble with the worst stiff joints and pain at night and we are in the process of looking to purchase a Memory Foam Topper.

We have heard that it is supposed to help a great deal but don' know any one who has one. They are very pricey and I don't want to invest if the results are minimal. I know Sue Ann has a memory foam pillow her Hubby gave her some time ago for her birthday and would also love to know what she thinks of it.

They say it is the answer to all the night pain but I would love to hear from any one who has bought one.

Thank you and many Hugs Louise

Hi, Louise . . . not only do I have the memory foam pillow, but I have the bed topper, too.  I LOOOOOOOOVE it!  I have terrible back problems and find that it's way more comfortable than my mattress.  We have a king size bed, so I got a twin size topper - my husband likes the mattress and he didn't have to give it up.  After I tried one topper, I liked it so much that I got another.  Sleeping on two of them is terrific!  I got mine at Target and they were quite reasonable (I think around $49.00 for the twin size at the time I got it).  The pillow is another story.  After sleeping on it for several weeks, I decided it had too much loft for what my neck needs.  But, I did find another use for it . . . because of my severe back maladies, I have to sleep with something under my knees, and the pillow works very well for that.  Hope this helps with your decision.

Hubby and I were looking into these when our air mattress that serves as our bed went totally flat  bear_cry !!  We live in an old house, and it has a bachelor's staircase (narrow!!) FAT CHANCE I'm lugging a normal bed up those stairs...

I digress...bed flat...we got a two inch bed topper made of Memory foam from Sam's Club and threw it onto the floor.  It took maybe a day to fully 'inflate' itself from being vacuum sealed in a box.  Once it was at maximum fluffiness the floor was totally comfortable to sleep on!  bear_shocked   I'm well beyond my 'teen years', so comfort is a priority, and my hips elbows and spine said they couldn't be happier.  We've since replaced the air mattress, and put the topper on top and have been thrilled with it ever since.  It's really been the best investment we've made in yearsbear_wub

One of our sons has Fibro and his bed is a TemperPedic.  (Funnily enough, I think the pet beds of the same memory foam are Thermopedic) I think that bed is to hard/firm.

We got a Select Comfort about 15 years ago; while we like it it too seemed to firm. We added a 3" (the thickest available about 4 years ago) TemperPedic mattress topper (About $350 at the time) and also have an egg crate mattress topper. Now the sheets hardly fit over it but it's a dream; firm underneath but molds to the body.
I too have spine problems and must sleep flat on my back. That necessitates pillows under my knees (to flatten the pelvic area spine and keep me from rolling onto my fave position - side) and a mostly flat small down travel pillow from The Company Store, to keep the neck & head in one straight position.

I would caution you to find out the exact sizes. We have an antique double Eastlake bed, but the double size of the Temperpedic mattress topper is almost 3" less wide on both side edges. Who knew??  I feel as if they cheated us out of 6"!!!! Did you know that a crib is almost more than 28" wide and half of a double is only 22"?

If we took the complete bed frame out of our tiny room, a Queen mattress/box spring has the same measurements as our current bed frame so it would fit but have to be on one of those unseen angle iron rail systems. I like the look and heigth of pur bed - almost hip bone high and I'm 5'8".

The room is only 10 ' sq (we're still in our 'starter' home 40+ yrs later) so it's out of the question to get a new Eastlake frame, even if I wanted to give up the current bed. The door barely opens past it while still allowing the minimum to get in & out on the other side and have room at the bottom for the matching dresser.

I doubt we'll replace the whole bed, but if I had it to do over again I'd get the exact measurements and order the Queen Temp. mattress topper if the Double is still narrower than a standard Dbl.

Good Luck!

I too have a king size bed, hubby likes his side firm, so I have a memory foam pad (twin) on my side and it's wonderful, it truly does conform to the shape of your body and provides alot of comfort on pressure points such as shoulders, hips etc (if you sleep on your side)

We have a memory foam topper on our guest bed, because it was too hard.  I sometimes end up in there when hubby is extra tired (like this time of year).  I love it - I couldn't sleep there before we got the topper.  We used the guest bed when we first moved in here as it was the first bed we put together.  The bonus is when you move, it doesn't affect the second person in the bed, because you don't feel is nearly as much.  Louise, I think it would be worthwhile for you to invest in one.  We bought ours at Sams Club in Toronto and I think it was about $179.00.  Does Costco carry them - it might be worth asking.  Let us know how  it works out.

It sounds like I need to invest in one of these foam toppers.  Some nights my hips just ache.  I turn over many, many times during the night.  The other problem here is that I am such a light sleeper that I don't just roll over like every other person around here does, I wake up and roll over.  So I never get an 8 hour undisturbed sleep.

You definietly don't feel anyone else moving  - human or pet - unless you come into contact with them. In this respect the memory foam rates the top marks.
