All Bear All Bear by Paula

I've been designing my own bears for over twelve years now and each and have named each and every bear I've ever created.  Occasionally I double up on a name, but it's rare.  After so many bears, I'm struggling now!  I completed a lovely bear today and I want to do the paperwork for him tonight, but the only thing holding me up is his name!

Does anyone have any tips on how to stay creative and avoid the dreaded 'Name Drain'?  bear_cry

Try one of the silly name generators out there.

Here's one based on the children's book series CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS, by Dave Pilkey.  If I put my own name in there, my new Captain Underpants name is CRUSTY GIRDLECHUNKS.

Go here:  http://www.ultsoftware.com/NameGen.html

There's also a PIMP NAME GENERATOR.  Visit http://www.playerappreciate.com/pimphandle.asp for this much-less-appropriate name generator.

Or, follow the rulebook to create a stripper name for yourself or a friend!  You take the name of your first pet, and the name of the street you grew up on, and combine them.  Doing so, I come up with BOOMER ORMONDE for myself.  I rather like it.  If I ever decide to wear tassels and a g-string as my work uniform, I think I'll use it!

Of course, these are ridiculous bear names.  But they just might get you thinking in new directions!  Like pet names, or streets near your house... or underpants...

What great ideas Shelli!  Thank you so much ... I'm off to play now!!

If I do the street name/pet name thing I'm Toffee Bower!  Cute eh?  Alternatively, I can be Leo Hampton -might need to grow a droopy moustache for that one!  bear_tongue

We have Captain Underpants too!

Paula, sometimes I use names of plants and trees (Timber was one of my favorite names that I have also doubled up on), mountains, weather patterns, even food (Ocassionally).  Registered cattle often offer some interesting names such as Holtex, Maddy, Blast-off, Buck-eye,  Champion, Dundie, Bingo, Heart-ache, Goldwin., Spirit, Electra,...etc....to name a few. bear_grin

If I am really stumped...you know, the name has to fit the bear...like a couple of days ago I designed a new bear and could not think of an appropriate name so I showed it to my four-year-old son, Joey, and asked him what he would name the bear and he replied, "Happy."  Happy it is.

 However, nothing beats "Crusty Girdlechunks'

"Crusty Girdlechunks" actually sounds like some sort of venereal disease, if you ask me, requiring extra washing-up liquid on laundry day.  Ewwww.  You can have it, Judi.

Cracking up here...

Paula, TOFFEE BOWER is an EXCELLENT stripper name!  I can see it on the marquee even as I type... bear_original

The dictionary is a great source for ordinary objects becoming extraordinary names.  Oh, and food too!

Nickleby Teawhistler for example.  Nickle + Tea + Whistle

Very good idea Aleta.  My daughter Jordan, likes to look up new words.  She came to me with 'Collywobbles'...it's an uneasy feeling in your gut. bear_laugh

Shelli, I wonder if anyone would bid on a bear with the name Crusty Girdlechunks!  Still laughing about that one! bear_laugh

..Pet name generators are some of my favorite ones for that block one gets when naming a bear:

http://www.bowwow.com.au/search/index.asp

http://gangstaname.com/pet_name.php

..and then elven and hobbit name generators are fun too:

http://www.chriswetherell.com/elf/

http://www.chriswetherell.com/hobbit/

http://www.jokesunlimited.com/christmas_elf_name.php

http://www.seventhsanctum.com/generate. … rkelfnamer

--my stripper name would be Aspen Baxter [quirking eyebrows]---and Aleta, I like your idea!  Will have to try that one...Collywobbles is adorable, Judy! in spite of what it actually means..  Will have to file that one away!

I am starting to have this same problem and have only been creating bears for 2 yrs! ... The names of my bears have to be more "wacky" because my bears are sort of wacky so I can't really name a bear something ordinary... ok, I am probably not making sense! LOL

I've had such a chuckle reading this thread!  Judi, I have my marquee ready ... a second income is always welcome ...

Aleta, what a great way to come up with names ... love it!

Maps too ... thanks Bobbie!  I use a thesaurus too ... until I go boggle-eyed sometimes!

Kim, I reckon those name generator websites will do you proud for your wacky names!

Well, time to put my thinking cap on ... I have a new bear to upload today!  That's if the stormy weather ever eases for long enough to photograph him ...  bear_wacko

Ah Marie..it's a close tie for first place next to Shelli's Crusty Girdlechunks and Sabine's Lumpy Gerbilshorts!

We've had some great fun and laughs with this at our house.  For example, one was:
Boobie Bubbletushie
