Hi,

I'm working on my first kit... Ike The Elephant.
I'm ready for the sewing part, but wanted to know if I match the thread to the backing or the fur?
The fabric is Upholstery velvet.

Hi, Insbearation. (Cute name!) bear_thumb
I usually match the thread to the backing of the fabric. I hope to hear that others do, too...I don't think I've ever asked! bear_shocked

The only exception I can think of (there may be others) would be when using the mini synthetic fur with the 'grid' backing which is always white. Then I'd match it to the fur color.

Backing match it is ;)
Wouldn´t look good, if one inspects my teddy´s tummy closely and sees the threat which matches the fur :(

If its the mini bear upholstery velvet go for the fur colour- the backing on upholstery velvet is usually white and your stitches would show up.

I use a beige coloured thread on most fabric types and colours. On white backing I'll use white thread. On black I'll use black. I rarely ever use coloured threads. Small tight stitching is rarely ever noticed. So other colours are'nt neccessary.   I have started using the' beading thread' from Sassy fabrics and highly recommend them.
They are so fine and strong that I am able to use a 12 sharp which means my stitches are far smaller than they have ever been.

Wendy,

The beading thread is it the Super-lon Nylon Thread?

This is a really good thread as I was wondering the same thing now that I have sparse mohair.

Hugs,
