Well, we were wondering when this would happen...
We did not recognize all typical behaviors.
Our kitty is meowing for any reason, maybe more than usual.
And this afternoon she had another typical behavior of this period when I was patting her.
She will be 7 months old in two days but she is already able to have babies!!! Oh my!
We are not sure yet whether or not we will take her to the vet for sterilization. It is quite expensive and she is an indoor kitty.
Hummm, yes she is definitely meowing much more than usual... 
If this is only the beginning, we may end up going to the vet finally!

Delartful BearsOh Sophie, even though it's expensive I would definatly get her de-sexed. She will turn out to be much happier. Female cats can be quite dirty when they are on heat (they urinate where they aren't supposed to), they are noisey night and day, get get quite up tight and stressed out when they are on heat. They are also very persistant on going outside - so they can slip through doors very quickly.
So, I think in the long run - you and her will be much happier if you get her desexed. I also reckon it's a small price to pay to get some peace LOL!!!!!
Anyhow, goodluck while she's on heat - they get so tiresome LOL :hug:

Sophie Z'OursThe money was not our main concern in that story. We just thought things would have been easier if we could avoid get her desexed...
But you must be right, Danni: if it is better for both our kitty and us, we will take her to the vet!!!

Queenslandsophie our cat is male and he is an inside cat and he is just on a year old, he has always used his litter box but the last couple of days he has been meowing very strangly, and he went to the toilet in our bathroom(naughty boy he was) so rang our vet and she said he is at that age where he can sense other cats around so marking his terrority, even though he is an inside cat.....so only thing to do is the vet.....so tomorrow my baby is going to be dexed :doh: didn't want to but the vet said it would be a good idea. Our cat even tried to run out the back door so thinking yep of to the vet....

I really would recommend sterilisation for your cat - and I bet, in a couple more days you'll agree!!! First time we went thru' something similar was with a kitten we found abandoned - we kept her....and at only THREE months or so, she came into heat - the vet wouldn't believe us at first! She drove us, the dogs and other cat insane - I swear she was running round the house trying out sound effects - yodelling into cupboards, and trying out echos...worst at around 2am!
The other time was with our norwegian forest cat - we decided it would be nice to have a litter from her,
and the first sign that she had come into heat was the black cat who took up residence in a flower bed, just under the window where she would sit and serenade him - poor boy.....I think he would sneak off home quickly for a bit to eat - and then he'd be back - not knowing that we had a nice norwegian boy lined up to meet "his" girlfriend!!!
Anyway - I wish you luck....or would you prefer ear-plugs!

Sunnie BearsDefinitely you should have her desexed. Not only for the peace of mind of not having kittens, but because it will prevent health problems in the long run. When a dog or cat is not spade or nuetered, they have a MUCH higher risk of diseases and infections of the reproductive "parts".

Posts: 3,540 Oi!!! I'm another who says if you're not truly dead set on having babies, get kitties ~ boys and girls ~ desexed as soon as you can.
We babysat a friend's persian cat when she was in season ~ it was hideously awful!!! The yowling and carrying on that she did ~ and all at the wee hours of the morning 
Earplugs should be standard issue.
And yes, be ultra careful with her around the doors, they are fast slipping out.

Chaska, MinnesotaSophie: run; don't walk to the nearest vet. Your kitty will do weird things when in heat and that includes trying to sneak out of the house when you least expect it when in heat. And trust me, the males will find her before you do. All vets recommend spaying or neutering your animals.

What a beautiful kitty you have. I have had many cats and the worst time I ever had was when I had a female cat in heat. I thought I would tear out all of my hair. Please do have her desexed as it will be better for her and your sanity.

I agree earplugs are in order for a female cat in heat. Trust me - 48 hours of listening to her and you will be definitley running to the nearest vet! I would never have an un-neutered cat, male or female!

Kim-Bee BearsI don't know anything about cats (I am allergic to them LOL)... but most humane societies will fix your pet for a cheaper rate than a normal vet...
Matilda Huggington-beareOH Sophie, you poor baby. I would take her to the vets immediately or you could find yourself a grandmother one of these days. If the TOMS get a whiff of her............It will get pretty noisy outside as well as inside.
Life will be much better for her if she doesnt have to go through all the hormonal changes.
A serious decion not tobe taken lighly. I do not envy you at this moment. :hug:

We had an horrible night thanks to our lovely kitty.
Meow, meow, meow! You got it?
We hoped to avoid that at least until the holidays, but too late...
And we are sunday, so we cannot do anything until tomorrow to calm her down.
Next night, i may use earplugs (a chance i always have some at home!).

my sympathies/empathies(!) ...but just one tiing before you run off to the vet tomorrow...phone and check first - I'm not sure whther they will operate WHILE the cat in on heat - guidelines for "best practices" seem to vary from country to country - whatever happens - good luck! And rest assured - your cat will be much happier without all the stress of hormonal upheavals . O.K. - it is natural for cats to have babies - but how many "wild " cats who breed at every chance live to a ripe old age?
Oh - and your cat really is beautiful!!!

Sophie Z'OursActually, Maria, i don't think the vet can operate her while she is on heat, but he may have some pills to give her to help her feeling better until her heat stops.

VallierBearsBeing a pedigree cat breeder, I believe if you arn't getting your girl mated, what I completley don't reccomend (such hard work!) When she has finished her cycle, it is kinder for her and for your ears day and night. The vets probably wont let you use any type of pill on her as it's her first heat. Well, I wouldn't advice it personally.
Female cats who come onto heat loose alot weight searching for a mate, Urinating in the worst places to attract males and generaly try to escape anyway they can.
It is kinder for everyone :)

Oh Sophie.....I feel for you!!! :hug: That is the worst, having a cat in heat living with you! Unfortunately, like you already know, you can't do much until she gets over this episode and you can get her fixed. Those earplugs are probably your best bet right now! On the plus side, if she's already been yowling for a couple of days, she should start winding down fairly soon. Hang in there! :hug: :hug:

There are 3 reasons, why you should have your cat "fixed" - and I am talking about castation, where the vet makes a real operation to take out the inner parts she does not need ( sorry my bad english)
1. your nerves & the nerves of your family
2. the enormous amout of baby cats that are born each year ( your cat could easily escape when she´s on heat, and she only needs to meet one toimcat to make you a cat-grandma)
3. she would never get cancer "there".
