Yesterday evening, I wanted to move the protection i put on the sofa, so I began to move the bears that used to sit on the top on the sofa and there I saw them...
lots of mold spots. I frenetically checked all the bears sitting there, and luckily they are all fine, as the spots of mold where not developped enough to attack them.
But when I moved the sofa away from the wall, I saw how wide was the catastroph for the paper wall: yoke yoke yoke yoke. lots of horrible fungi developped happily there, probably because of wet... how bizarre!
So instead of enjoying Terminator 3 on TV with Malko, i began to clean  the wall the best I could. The wall paper was attacked too, so Malko helped me removing the wall paper where the wall was attacked.
A chance we have some wall paper left from the previous person who was living in the flat.

So today, Malko put some pieces of wood to block the sofa far enough from the wall to avoid wetness and fungi!
Sadly, I could not put my bears back on top of the sofa (without the wall, they would fall), so the poor bears are now crowded in my bedroom.

I am really relieved I noticed the mold before it attacked my bears!

Damned flat!

Beary hugs,
Sophie.

Sophie,

This is very distressing to hear and I am glad the bears did not suffer from the attacking mold. You need to check for some type of water leak which may be what caused the mold.

Actually, we think that may be because the sofa was too closed to the wall, and so the air could not circulate properly...
We did not notice any source of leaking.
This is one of the main wall of the building, but there is a house just "glued" to the other side of the wall... But that wall is very cold.

We never had problems with molds before, except on the kitchen window, which is not surprising as it is so old.

Beary hugs,
Sophie.

Dont forget to use bleach on it...it will kill the mold. (25% bleach 75% water)   Your right, you probably just had a ventilation problem and it sounds like you have solved that....

Happy Cleaning and wallpapering to ya...ugghhh!

Hi Sophie,

You might be right, since the wall is cold then the protection on the couch was probably sweating and created condensation on the wall.

I'm glad it is not a water leak.

Kim, thanks I had forgotten to mention about the bleach.

Yep, bleach is about the only thing that will kill some molds.  Scary, scary stuffs  bear_shocked   I'm so glad you noticed in time to safe your bears, and the wall and sofa.  What a way to spend the evening though  bear_wacko

Sophie I think you will find that the problem is still on the other side of the wall. The other building being so close , has cut off ventilation and any sunlight to that area. The couch being against the wall made a lovely warm patch for the mold to grow.  Unfortunately there isnt anything you can do about the outside wall other than mention it to the building manager & or owner. Damp walls can cause untold damage if left.
I'm soooo glad your bears were untouched. That would have been catastrophic!

Oooohhhh, nasty fungus! I'm glad it didn't get your bears! I get mildew on my white metal window frames. No where else, but I am continually cleaning it off the window frames. Weird.
