mouse8a.jpgOkay, there is a first time for everything you do...so this is my very first attempt to make a mouse from polymer clay. Of course, I see a lot of mistakes but overall I'm happy with my first attempt. I don't know much about polymer clay. Oddly enough I have several good friends that are amazing polymer clay artists. I wanted to give mice to some of my bears as companions so I thought that I would try making polymer clay mice. (The mice for my bears would be smaller than this one ... but I have to work my way down to smaller).

I put more photos on my website:

I would love to get some feedback and especially some suggestions from those of you who are polymer clay artists.

Thanks for looking!

Hi Gail,
Yes, I flocked it with mink hair.... I'm sure that you know me well enough by now to know that if I can make something using mink...I will!

Thanks for the supportive words.

Thanks, Paula, Sandy, and Andrea! I appreciate the positive feedback.

Sandy, when I was researching "how to" instructions for polymer clay the process of glueing hair to the sculpt was usually referred to as flocking (I thought that you did to Christmas trees  bear_rolleyes )... I guess flocking sounds better than glueing...LOL!!! bear_grin

Hi Kathy,

I think you did a wonderful job. I am working in polymer clay right now doing dolls. I so understand how it can be. I have used it in other areas in my art work. Your mouse is wonderful!!! He has good proportions, I mean he looks like a mouse would look. Very nice for your first.  bear_thumb

Oh hooray!     Thank you  all for the kind words, it's good to know that you all think that my first mouse looks pretty good. I am going to try to make one to interact with one of my bears ... wish me luck.

LOL!  bear_grin  Gail, I thought about applying the hairs one at a time because my inspiration is the amazing work of Fantasy Artist Michelle Bradshaw ... she makes fur covered polymer clay animals that look so real it's totally amazing. But even I don't have the patience to apply one hair at a time. I applied the hairs in little bunches so it went pretty fast.
