Sorry to bother you with this, but I´m determine to help my best friend Silvia:
Her oldest son has his final examinations at high school and needs to write an essay about child labour. In english. And he has to bring 3 examples of novels about child labour.
There are some good novels in german, and they also know Huckle Berry Finn and another which I forgot at the moment  , so I was hoping you could mention a few novels that deal with this dreadful subject.
Thanx in advance for your help!
Gaby
what about Charles Dickens novels.... Oliver Twist I think.
Marion
How about Charles Dickens'? http://42explore.com/dickens.htm Its been ages since I've read "Great Expectations" (and I still detest my teacher for making me read that one!), but didn't his "Oliver Twist" and "David Copperfield" deal with the child labour subjects as well?
There is also "Counting on Grace" by Elizabeth Winthrop. This is a children's book grades 5 - 8, but it might be helpful.
Hugs,
I can't really think of anything besides ROOTS and thats not just about child labour.
Sorry, not much help from me
Definitely CHarles Dickens Oliver Twist and Hard Times. Dickens, I think, is one that we all immediately think of when it comes to novels about child labor.
Also Katherine Paterson wrote a book called Lyddie about a girl that ends up working in the fabric mills.... that's a "young adult" book though... for ages 12 to 15. Not sure if that makes a difference, but it's a great book!
That's all I can think of off the top of my head...
