We took some more pictures today during and after the cleanup of our crazy amount of snow.  Wow!!  There was a van under that snowdrift after all!!   The boys now have two huge piles of snow to play on, and they made good use of them today.  It's quiet in my house tonight..........I think they're too tired out to make any noise! bear_grin

Anyway, here's the latest pics!

Oh my dear me!!  That still looks like an awful lot of snow to clean up over the car and all  bear_wacko
May be a stupid question, but what happens when it all melts?  or does it melt slowly and you don't notice it?

I'm glad you asked that Sarah now I don't feel so silly for wanting to know the same thing....I keep getting pictures of rivers flowing through everyones back yard!!!  bear_ermm

Cheryl, we sure will sleep well tonight.......all of us!!  I had snow to scoop by the barn and chicken house this morning, and then Darren and my oldest also cleaned off the van and drive the rest of the way.  Plus the boys played hard!  We are all pooped! bear_tongue

Sarah, it was a job getting the van uncovered and moved.  There was quite a bit of snow packed under it as well, and that made it difficult to get out.  The job was accomplished however! bear_thumb Now, when it all melts there will be mud.....mud......and more mud! bear_wacko I am hoping the melting is slow so the ground can soak it up.  Otherwise, we will have a lake in the front yard and the ditches (we do have those by the road, but they are completely filled with snow!) will be full of water.  Then at night it will refreeze, so there will be ice to deal with too.  Fun, fun, fun!! bear_grin It all depends on just how warm it gets during the day each day..........we shall see!

Oops!  Missed your post Sarah Jane!  No reason to feel silly asking that question!   Something has to happen when all that snow melts!  Actually, there can be river flooding with a big melt.  I hope there isn't too much of that this Spring, but it could happen.  For us, we will probably end up with a small lake in the yard.

Hey Sarah......if it was summer here I would be complaining about the heat too!! bear_grin  bear_grin I really don't know why I live in Iowa, other than this is where I was born and raised.  The winters are awful with nasty storms and snow like this (although this storm was a bit over the top and not the norm) and then the summers are awfully hot and humid.  In short, I am unhappy with our weather a good half of the year!!

How are the winters where you are?  Do you have any snow, or is it rain?

So glad that you are at the cleanup stage and good to see you have a path cleared - pretty white snow and the sky looks
so beautiful and blue.
Good luck Tracy and stay warm.

Good grief, Tracy - we normally get a fair bit of snow here - tho' this winter seems set to be the warmest and WETTEST on record...it has been more stormy than usual - last week thunder and hail storms, but nothing like your snow!
And yes. when it melts down, it can get VERY messy - if it thaws really quickly, then you can expect flooding - worst here in W.Europe is when the Alpine snow cover melts rapidly - the Rhine tends to get overloaded, and, as happened a few years back, a lot of people in the Netherlands have to move !!!
I'm intrigued tho' - we got a lot of reports last week of the really bad storms in Georgia and surrounds - maybe there aren't any TTers in that area?
Right now, I envy you the snow - it is very wet and muddy here, and I'm just contemplating scrubbing the floors - with a huge dog and a couple of cats - is it worth it???

Snow is wonderful stuff.....beautiful after it falls and you can see it in the sunshine.  bear_laugh  Pain in the butt when it falls because you have to clear off driveways and sidewalks  bear_happy ....no sooner do you finish the drive and the plow comes along filling it all back in!  bear_wacko  Then comes Spring and warmer temps when it starts to melt and you get mud, mud and more mud (great for teh kids that like to make mud pies!) and flooding (flooding prdeictions are out for areas in New York that got the 12 feet of snow)

Personally, I probably would not live anywhere else but in NY because I like the change in temps. and the snow, the only thing I don't like is the bitter cold........I decided several years ago, after visiting Florida in the winter, that Anyone can live in Florida.....but it takes some one with Guts (or is crazy) to live in Central or Northern New York!

Very nice pictures Tracy.....we have maybe 2 feet accumulation on the ground......

Tracy, glad to hear the snow is clearing, we normally get rain and more rain when it does rain, on a very rare I mean rare occassion it may snow but that is freck weather, but you need to be elevated high in the mountains or true alpine areas to actually see the snow, it never snows just anywhere here.

Glad to see you got out Tracey.  That is a lot of snow.  I have a friend in Ames, I think I'll have to contact her to see if she got buried too.    We had a storm like that in 2004 .  I remember the kids sledding off the roof of our van and the street wasn't plowed for 3 days.  It can make you feel trapped for sure.  Srping is on the way.

wow, being from Canada, it takes a lot of snow to impress me and boy and I impressed! How cool it would be to be a kid and build tunnels in all that snow.

Stay warm!

Tracey, I'm the same, happy with our weather half of the year  bear_tongue  That would be winter and spring  bear_wacko
Here is Adelaide our winters are very mild, never going below 0C (30F) at night (which is freezing to us!!!!)  If its 15C during the day here we are bundled up with overcoats and gloves in the morning lol.
We don't get a lot of rain, Karen definitely gets more in Melbourne than we do here....the sun still shines most of the winter too, so I love the cool and sunshine.  Spring is a little warmer and lovely, sunny all the time...then the summer comes and I complain and complain  bear_whistle
Winter time soon tho bear_original  And everything will be green and pretty instead of brown bear_sad

Tracy,
Being from Texas USA it was hard to imagine how deep the snow was from the first photos.
I am 'blown away' from the clean up photos !  Thank you for sharing.
You mentioned cleaning up the barn and chicken house. Were there animals in the barn ?
"frozen chickens"   How do the chickens stay warm ? bear_wacko  bear_wacko

We have that to look forward to as well Maria bear_wacko .......... I've got a huge dog and two little dogs that will have muddy toes.  Er, make that hooves in the Mastiff's case! It seems like cleaning a ponies feet when trying to wipe the mud off! bear_tongue  bear_whistle

Karen and Sarah, thanks for the info about winter in Australia! bear_thumb   I was really wondering about that!  Seems noone has perfect weather, eh?  If there is such a place on Earth, lets all move there! bear_grin

Wendy........you are so funny!

Paula, those pics are so pretty! bear_thumb I just love the way English gardens are set up anyway......and then to top them off with snow. *sigh* bear_wub

Donna, we do have animals in the barn.  Two horses and a herd of barn cats.  Also our pet turkey and a handful of peacocks (they roost in the rafters during the winter.......on the barn roof in warm weather).  I had to clear a snowdrift from just inside one of the horse's stalls......it nearly blocked her door and I didn't want to let it melt all over either.  Then I had to clear out the large sliding door that opens so I can fill the water tank.  That darn door was frozen shut!! bear_wacko   As far as the chickens, they had drifts in front of their doors too, and they were wanting out in the sunshine.......so what's a gal to do but scoop them out? bear_tongue They are actually quite warm in their little house (it is ventilated for them, but also draft free).  They stay close together to share body heat, fluff up their feathers to trap warm air around their bodies, plus any chicken poo in there actually puts off some heat as well.  Kinda gross, but effective! bear_thumb We do keep the house clean, but it doesn't take long for a fresh batch to heat things up, hee hee! bear_grin  bear_whistle

Really looking forward to Spring now bear_grin ..........
