Well here it is...straight out of the horses mouth....this is the reply I got from eBay about why I can't find my listing on .com despite choosing a worldwide availablity option...why can't I find it? Because they no longer guarantee it will get listed by default on worldwide sites if you choose this option..as was always the case previously...they also say that this policy is going to work in reverse..so if you list on .com it won't necessarily show up on .co.uk.....so that's it in a nutshell..it's a money making scheme to get you to list on two sites..how much do you want to bet that they will start charging to ensure your auction shows up on all relevant sites...or do they charge already..maybe I missed something.....anyway..here's their reply:

With regards to your query about being unable to find your listing on
eBay US, please be informed that for several years, items listed on
eBay.co.uk have also appeared in the default search results on eBay.com.
However, as eBay.co.uk has grown over time, the volume of items listed
on eBay.co.uk that appear on eBay.com can make it difficult for US-based
buyers to find and buy the items they want.

We're currently testing different options for displaying UK-listed items
on eBay.com, with the aim of balancing the needs of buyers with the
visibility of items listed on eBay.co.uk. As a result, items listed on
eBay.co.uk will no longer be guaranteed to appear within the default
search results on eBay.com, just as items listed on other eBay sites are
not shown by default on eBay.co.uk.

If you want to ensure that your listings appear in the default search
results on eBay.com you'll need to list your items directly on the
eBay.com site. Please note that such listings will not be eligible for
any pricing promotions run on eBay.co.uk.

I posted this separately from the other thread so it doesn't get overlooked ...sorry to go on about ebay again but I just  thought this ebay statement was important information!

bear_sad  bear_sad  bear_sad  Jenny that is such a shame.....I suppose now you are up for two listing fees or you have to choose which site works better for you..... bear_ermm   Typical of ebay and here I was hoping they would make it so the AU stuff would show up on the US site eventually so I could save myself a double listing fee.... bear_sad

You know what I hate..I hate the way they try to make out it's some big issue about visibility...it's nonsense..it's about money making ..plain and simple.

If it's about visiblity...which it truly isn't...then why is my auction invisible on .com. I just went to the site map and checked out the 'find my auction' page...it says my auction doesn't exist on the .com site when I type the number in...

I am nervous of Bid4Bears at the moment..but I do hope it takes off.

One thing is certain..I can't fathom out this sneakiness on ebay..why can't they just come out and say...
'we're going to start charging for worldwide listings'...I am now wondering whether you can list on two sites..are the auctions linked?...do you pay double fees.?....anyone know? I wonder if it would benefit me not to do a featured listing and then list on two sites...not sure if that's possible?

Thanks for finding out the truth Jenny, even if it is a right pain  bear_angry   I think you can list the same item on both ebay sites at the same time, but then double fees I should think..
I hope your bunny does really well, he deserves too

Jenny you can list on two sites, I do it all the time and so do many Australian sellers, it's the only way to get our listings to show up on bot AU ebay and ebay.com...unfortunately it's double fees and that makes it unaffordable to do featured listings because you can't choose featured on one site without choosing it on the other.... :o

I do it by listing on ebay.com then choosing a second catagory so it shows up on ebay.com.au..but it may be different for you uk girls???

Hi Jenny

I received an Ebay Newsletter about this about 2 months ago, and mentioned too other artists what was going on, but at that time there listings were still being displayed on the two sites, but I did say it was random as every now an then there listing appeared when I checked, so it looks as if it has come into full swing and you have to pay to get the full visability potential from eBay.

If you were to list the same item on both .com and .co.uk the item would have two item numbers so this would be (I think) two seperate auctions, yes the public can see what other items you have for sale (thats the link) if they check out your other items for sale.

I personally do not like to sell on .co.uk and have up until the last month only auctioned on .com, yes theres more listings on .com but there is more interest from the collectors on this site (in my opinion, this works for me, can't say it works for all).  Howver, I have started to list another bear on .co.uk as a general listing and another as Featured on .com, this allows the two to link, yes it is expensive, but works for me, you have too remember Ebay is a market place and no guarantee to sell, as prices are not stable, this silly shill bidding, and the stupid amount of watchers who are not interested in purchasing, but just looking to see  what prices your bear fetches, so these factors in general are giving us a misconception on ebay.  Ebay in my opinion should be used as an advertising tool, and if you are lucky you manage to get a sale, yes it can be an expensive way of doing it, but lets face it it costs far more a month to advertise in a magazine in this Country with a far less distribution rate.  I mean by this as a Featured item it roughtly costs £12.00 and a normal listing approx £3.00 yes I know you have final sellers fees, but for one advert in a mag it costs roughly £50.00 for 4 weeks, I know my maths are my week subject but as an advertising investment Ebay still wins hands down for me.  So to cut my ramblings down (sorry!) Ebay will always be the one to make the money, but its up to us to use it to our own benefits not always with the intention of making sales.  I can give an example of this - before I did the Hugglets show earlier this year I used ebay as an advertising tool to promote a new range of bears and to say I would be at Hugglets, well the response was absoloutely amazing, I sold 13 bears at Hugglets + commissions and trade orders, so for me Ebay ROCKS.

Sorry if I have gone on a bit Jenny,  interupting your thread, please don't think I am venting at you, just hoping to help in a way and  I just felt I needed to get this off my chest, because at the moment within the bear world everyone is too quick to bring it down, and I feel a little postive attitude is required by all to lift moral up especially with the slump with ebay.

Hugs and best wishes
Jacqui

Hi Jacqui..and everyone...No I don't think you were venting...what you are saying  is so true!!! Let me say..that I love ebay as a way of selling...love it, love it, love it....but....I think ebay as a company are just putting too many hurdles in place for ease of selling..and actually..in spite of their insistence that they are promoting better visiblity of all items I think the reverse is happening...that before this stupid new policy it was perfectly possible for me to sell on ebay .co.uk...not incur the ridiculous paypal exchange rate ( because of getting paid in dollars) and still be visible to all who are looking generally at artist bears in the OOAK section worldwide...not just those who know me and my work. All they do is alienate people...

So...if I list on two sites...I know I have to pay two lots of listing fees...so I forego my featured listing to do that...not so big a deal...and then do I have to pay twice for the final value fees at whatever  % it is....coz that would be a dear do...!!
