What is your reaction when a new eBay member, less than a day with no feedback puts in a high bid on one of your auctions? Do you contact the member to make sure they are legit or just let it be? I have lost 3 watchers on my auction since these bids last night (not that watchers mean they are bidders) but it makes me wonder if they think something hokey is up.....hopefully somebody can help me out and thanks in advance if you can.

Hi Krista,
Like Ellen said, I wouldn't worry about it.
I have had newcombers bid without any trouble.  I bet this is just someone who found out about your auctions and just had to have one of your creations so they signed up. bear_thumb  bear_thumb  bear_thumb

I've seen some people state in auctions that bidders must have at least ___ feedback prior to bidding. The number is usually between 5 & 10 feedbacks.  I'm not sure if it's the best or most fair system, but neither is getting hit with a fraudulent auction.  We're all so on edge and sceptical about scams and fraud.
If you're at all concerned about others thinking you're doing something wrong, shill bidding or something.. don't.  You're never going to make everyone happy, you're never going to put everyone's mind at rest and you're never ever going to have any control over ebay (unless you make stipulations and bidding rules for your auction).

If you didn't make any mention of a required feedback in the listing and you don't contact all of your bidders I wouldn't personally contact this bidder. Even if you did...what could they say "yes I intend to buy".  That's already been said with accepting the terms prior to bidding.  if it was me I'd wait and see. bear_flower

Thank you everyone....you have said what I was thinking, but sometimes it just helps to put it out there and think out loud....we all started somewhere, and I know myself when I was new to eBay I was annoyed that I couldn't bid on something I wanted in the beginning because the seller wanted feedback of 25 or more...so I believe in giving everyone a fair chance...but with all the scams going on, I hate the fact that it has made me skeptical and suspicious of everything and everyone...fingers crossed all will go well, and if not I will just go on and relist...

Krista

Just to be aware,  I had this happen once.  I received a notice from ebay that this was an unauthorized account (or something to that effect).  They retracted the bid and it basically killed my auction.  The watchers were gone and the previous bid was also gone.

I've only bought one item on ebay.  If I bid now, I would be one of those people.  If I do bid, I think I'll drop the seller an email letting them know I'm a new ebay buyer.  Is there anything else I should tell them to make them feel at ease?

Well,..... it is pretty tough to buy anything if we can't bid because we have no feedback...  somebody has to let us buy the first few.

also... sometimes when a buyer is new..they don't quite get the concept... and they put in a bigger bid than necessary to make sure they get what they are bidding on.  I did that when I bought my first few little needlefelts.... .

If it happens not to work out... so be it... the worst is you will have to re-list.... but.... what if a new ebayer becomes one of your best customers?   It would have been a great shame to scare them off in any way.  If it was me...I would just leave it and see what happens.

I put a requirement that all bidders must have a Paypal account.   I feel that most scammers aren't going to go to the bother of setting up a Paypal account.  You can actually block those that don't meet your requirements by going into your preferences on your ebay account.
I probably shouldn't tempt fate by saying this, but I haven't had any scammers since I did that.  Good Luck Krista.

I don't know, that yorkie you made is really, really cute. I think the bid is legit, they probably saw that little puppy and had to have her! Enjoy the extra income!   bear_thumb
