Julia,
I love the way the nose on your Avatar stands up there so prominent.  Do you have a special way to get it to stand up so high?  I use felt and have put stuffing under the felt to try to get my noses to be more prominent but I just can't seem to get them to stand up.

aaaa.jpghhh.jpgOh, Donna, no, there wasn't any special way. First, I needle-sculpted the mouth and cheeks. Then I just used very thick piece of some material (I guess syntethic)  I've found. Also, this time I used different type of mouline for nose. I embroided the nose with thick single floss I've used for tatting(did I spelled it right? those round small pretty things laying on the table?) I put some pict to made it more clear.
I think, if the felt is too soft you may glue one side to make it more firm. The other "secret" is that the bear is rather small 12 inch high. So I guess, the thcikness of the felt should be propotionally increased if your bear is much bigger.

Hope, my explanation is helpfull. Sorry for not answering...just found this post.

Hugs, Julia

Thanks Julia,
It looks like your material you use is much thicker than the felt I use.  Maybe I'll glue two pieces of felt together.
Thanks,
Donna

bear_laugh Thanks, Julia

I was wondering too! The felt-substitute you use looks a bit like the synthetic scouring fabric we buy here, and a bit like the allergen filter in my vacuum cleaner! Is it squishy or firm?

Hi,just popping in to say it looks like needlepunch,we sell it in the fabric/craft store but I think you can get it at Walmart. It's used for quilting and wall hangings. bear_laugh

Eileen, the fabric is pretty firm so it keeps it's shape when you sew it in.
