This won't work for long as they are getting rid of the old Selling form... but.... here's what I posted on the Ebay discussion boards....
As I was searching the Tech problems discussion boards... I came across someone's post (sorry, forgot who it was) which suggested that these recent indexing problems are due to the NEW Sell Your Item form!
I have just found that to be true!
I listed an item in the Artist Bear section with the new form (it's the only section I sell in)
Not showing up after an hour... (I know... allow 6 hours...) But it NEVER used to take that long!
Saw the post suggesting it may be the new form that is causing the problem.
I created a new listing - same item but using the old form. It was indexed within minutes... like it used to be....
I'm posting this so eBay knows where to look for their troubleshooting. Better yet... do NOT get rid of the old form!
That is interesting.... It sounds so much like you have found the problem. Great Job girlfriend!!!
Thanks! Now the problem is convince eBay to KEEP the old SYI form
Hi Laura,
That sounds right on, Laura! I used to always use the old seller form, and never had any problems. I switched to Auctiva, and had a problem with my last auction. Why, oh why do they always try to fix things that aren't broken! I wish they would just stick to the old seller form!
hugs,
Brenda
I just reported it to eBay too.... not sure if it will help or not. BUT..... we HAVE found that if MANY people complain about an issue... it does bring it to eBay's attention!
here's what I did... feel free to copy and paste to make it fast & easy!
Go to eBay and sign in.
Click the "HELP" box at the top
On this next page, click the "Contact Us" link on the left hand of the page under "eBay Help"
Scroll down, and choose the radio button next to: View and Report Site Issues
Hit "Continue"
Click "General Issues" and then "Continue"
Near the bottom of the page, click the "Contact Us" link that is under: Report a Technical Issue
Now you get to "fill in the boxes"
Where it says "Enter error message".... type in :
There is no error message, however there is a BIG problem with items getting "indexed" quickly - and I KNOW WHERE THE PROBLEM IS!
Skip the URL box...
Enter this in the Enter your question / concern box - or choose your own wording of course!
I know you are aware of the indexing problem. Items are taking hours or days to get indexed and thus hours or days to show up in searches or catagory listings.
The problem lies with the NEW SELL YOUR ITEM FORM!!!!!
I have many friends who tested this theory by listing identical items.... one using the new form, the other using the old form.
The items listed using the old SYI form were indexed within minutes! The items listed using the NEW SYI form took hours or days to be indexed! This is UNacceptable!!
Please!!!! Do NOT eliminate the old SYI form until all of the bugs have been worked out of the new SYI form!!! (or better yet... if it ain't broke... don't fix it!)
Thank you
That is so interesting, Laura! I have never switched to using the new form - always hate to change when I am comfortable with what I am doing! and I have had never had a problem with my listings showing up. I just thought I was lucky but now I know the real reason!
Wow! I hope they get it handled soon since it is frustrating for many.
Well, looks like they MAY have fixed the problem!!!!!!!!! I've had several friends tell me they've used the new form now with no probs... just used it myself to list April there and she showed up in minutes. Who knows if it will always be like that.... but for a long time it was always taking hours.
I see that eBay did a facelift to their front page and the header... I wonder if when doing that change, something happened with the search... or maybe coincidence??? Who knows?
I just finished scheduling 2 auctions - one to start mid-week & one in 2 weeks. I too hated the new SYI format, but they have all of the options on a single page now, where Title and Description used to be first, then the selling & shipping options on the next page... if you goofed and wanted to go back you'd get the Are you sure you want to go back? pop-up first, then wait while it uploaded... They're there now on the same page - IF you know where to look for them! I gues it'll just take time.
What I haven't figured out yet is this: I used to keep a Text Edit/Wordpad window open side-by-side with the eBay Preview Your Item next to it. Like windowpanes but 2 separate skinny active windows open at the same time. As I scrolled through the Preview page & could see how it would appear, I could quickly make changes to the original code in the window next to it, Save and upload it all at once when I was satisfied.
I cannot find that now (the stupid Preview window isn't even adjustable in width to see the whole text at once to check for grammar, spelling..) Now I have to do it all on my desktop with the images (up to 15) open and key the text to them, then upload to SYI and go through it to Preview as best I can.
The LOADING...... takes FOREVER for every time you go in & out of Preview.
The new format's OK (tho I agree w/"Don't fix what ain't broke") but I think all old features should be kept and enhanced, not deleted & replaced.
I have been having the same problem, with scheduled auctions showing up 6 hours or more late. I thought that today I would do things differently, and the problem was fixed. Not sure if it is the same thing you are talking about Laura, but here is my scenario.
When I have listed in the past, I have gone into a completed (and sold) auction, and clicked on the "sell a similar item", and then just changed things around - ie: pics, wording, etc. These auctions were always scheduled, and were always late.
This time I started from fresh - a completely clean slate so to speak - and scheduled the listing to appear at 2: pm (only 30 min from when I had finished), and it came up right on time. I remember seeing somewhere that if you do any revisions to your listing, that it will take a long time to show up. I am wondering if using an old listing, and just revising it is for the new bear the same thing.
Hope this makes sense.
