well, I have my loc-line now and it is quite stiff and the more I bend it the more it squeaks! I know I can't oil it for fear of it getting on the bear, what do you think of a wee bit of vaseline? and also when uoy put it in do you put it snug right down into the paw? do you stuff the arm lightly or wrap in batting? please help
Hi Brenda
I don't think you can make the squeek go away. I have an Anne Inman bear from 1988 with a full body locline skeleton and it still squeeks. I wrap the limb pieces in batting and then use a piece of string or thread to wrap around the batting and tie it in place. then I stuff the paw or foot lightly then insert the locline. That way you don't feel it at the end of the paw

I think that's the nature of the beast...locline really squeeks! Great product though, I would use it for a bear that I wanted to have a particular pose - not for one I wanted to move around alot.

I have heard that if you oil or lubricate the locline ...it will not hold a position, it will be a limp noodle. I guess it's the squeak that gives it the "staying" power.

My boyfriend says nobody is going to want a squeaky bear, have any of you had complaints from a customer?
I have had one person comment about the noise that the loc-line makes. I just told the customer that the bear got used to hearing my knees creaking while I was making it and thought it was to make a noise also. It gave the cutomer a good laugh and a story to tell her friends.
If you are going to put anything in your bear for weight (glass beads, steel shot, pellets) you will want to put stuffing in the open ends of the loc-line. It will rattle if you get pellets or shot up inside the loc-line.

What is a non-squeaky alternative to locline for bears? Or is there none?
..I was just about to go drop some money on some 'cause I am trying bigger bears. Am now wondering if I should?

I'm wondering if I should mention this when selling it, just in case. There is just no comparing any other product that I know of that can bend and not break like this stuff. Personally, I don't care about the sqeak I'm just thinking of other people, and I'm sure with it being a collectable bear they won't be bending the arms over, and over and over
I use strong 12 Gauge wire from Home Depot and am very happy with the pose-ability I get with this...just another option for you...I place cotton batting around it before inserting it into my dogs legs. I have used it in bears as well and have been very happy.

Krista
I'm just using this armature now, I've had it sitting aside for a while waiting for the right bears. I'm moving it back and forth and it's not horribly noisy. I'm get a little squeak or plastics rubbing sound every once in a while. I think for the posing options it offers the slight squeak or clicking is a good compromise! The bears aren't going to be walking about all day bugging their new mums with squeakies
Not sure if it matters but I'm using Jeton brand and not "Loc Line" name brand. I got mine from crscrafts.
I've tried wire and I don't like it too much...I found it got "kinked"or something during even the simplist bending. When I did use wire I opted not to use the little connector ring things...after moving a few back and forth 3-4 times they snapped right in half. I wasn't sure how that would play into the whole "test of time" thing with limb posing, so I opted for drilling a hole through the disk and secured the wire that way.
Donna...GREAT tip, I wouldn't have thought of that!

sorry I should have said...I don't use the connectors either, especially in my dogs as their legs are non jointed and I make them a skeleton that ends up one piece if that makes any sense...

Krista
This is all great advice! Maybe it's every little noise annoying me lately
Brenda I wouldn't worry to much about the squeak. Remember the loc line is there for posing, it's not going to be moved a lot. We use it all the time and love it, we also use wire but depending on the size of your bear I like the loc line for my bigger bears. Don't let the squeak bother you honestly, I don't even notice it .
big hugs
Shane
Thanks guys!
