I thought since everyone most likely just got back from spring break I would love to hear about your favorite vacation spot.

We just got back last week for spring break, we went to Memphis Tenn, which I LOVED, my husbands brother in law just opened a new business and we had a big party for him at the Peabody, it was BEAUTIFUL, they have the ducks walk thru the hotel and float in the fountain, the kids thought that was so cool. Then we went to Arkansas to look for Diamonds, I saw the show on the travel network called "Cash to Treasures"  (love the show) about this place in Arkansas , well it's really pretty but smack dab in the middle of nowhere, it looked like a big Mud pit, we couldn't get a camp site, which my husband the non camper did a happy dance, we went into Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Illinois and back home. It was so wonderful to see new parts of the US.

But my all time favorite place to go, is Mackinac Island in Michigan, it's where the movie somewhere in time was filmed, if you ever get a chance to go , do it, it is a truely magical place.

Jodi,
Our favourite place is Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.  We go twice a year and are leaving Sunday to go again for 6 days.
We are very familiar with the area now but it is just so peaceful there.  We love to drive on the country roads, among the Amish farms and watch the horses and buggies.  There are tons of great antiquing spots, lots of great places to eat and a zillion outlet shopping stores!  YIPPEE - CAN'T WAIT!

                                    hugs,

                                    Brenda

My favourite vacation spot of all time has to Grenada in the Carribean.  I have been there twice,  it's called the spice island because nugmeg grows there and all kinds of other spices.  The people are very friendly and they don't  bug you like they do on a lot of the other islands.  I would retire there in a heartbeat if I could afford to.  If you ever get the chance to go you must, it is beautiful and clean and safe.  I love that place,   Texas would be my second choice I love it there as well.  Friends in San Antonio which is a beautiful city and again found the people to be very accomodating and super friendly.

big hugs

Hi Jodi, you have almost sold that holiday to me - sounds wonderful will have to go on my holiday list (which will take years to get through there are that many places I want to go to). My favorite so far is the Sorrento and the Amalfi coast in Southern Italy, that whole area I think is magical and so much to see with Pompei, Capri etc, but Sorrento I think is such a pretty and romantic place - loved it.

Warm wishes
Pauline

Yes Jodi Grenada is expensive if you stay at a resort, but you can rent a house for a week which includes a house keeper  bear_grin  and a cook (you just buy the groceries) and then it's pretty reasonable.

We basically live in Amish/Mennonite country , we see them all the time , put PA does sound very nice

hugs

What a great topic!

My most favourite place to go is Venice. I have been there twice now. Stuart (my fiancee) and I first went there 6 years ago while doing a little travelling around Italy. We then went back there in September 2004 for 4 days....there was an alternative reason Stuart wanted to go back - he proposed to me on a gondola as we drifted under the Rialto Bridge - it was SO romantic and I couldn't have asked for him to do it in a more perfect way! The people there are wonderful and the food simply superb. My favourite thing to do there is to sit in an outside cafe in St.Mark's Square and just watch people go about their daily business...it's blissfull!

We are getting married in August and are we're going on honeymoon for a week afterwards.........to Venice!!!

I also love holidays in the UK; Dorset being an all-time favourite. We went there every year, to the same place all throughout my childhood until I was about 14. It holds so many wonderful memories and I still swear they were the best holidays of my life - no frills and just having family time! I also love Cornwall!

I just love the south of France, driving along country road past the vineyards. Also I love the area around Grass where everywhere is covered with flowers, which are used in the perfume industry, so pretty.
I have just got back from visiting my daughter in Nottinghamshire. One day we visited Creswell Crags which is a limestone gorge honeycombed with caves and smaller fissures. Stone tools and remains of animals found in the caves by archaeologists provide evidence for a fascinating story of life during the last Ice Age between 50,000 and 10,000 years ago. Further evidence was found in 2003 with the discovery of Britain's only known Ice Age rock art. Here's some pictures that we took at Creswell Crags:

Here is a Robin Hood's Cave, the largest and most prominent, where the famous fugitive is said to have found safety on a number of occasions.

Some more of the caves where ancient cave paintings have been found and remains going a far back as the ice age.

Jodi, sound like you had a wonderful Spring Break.  We did not go anywhere.  It's really hard for all of us ot go anywhere together because of the farm.  I would  love to have seen the ducks go into tje fountain at your hotel.  Do you have any photos?  I just adore anyhting to do with animals.

My favorite vacation spot has to be Disney World in Orlando Florida.  I feel like a kid and get more excited about the seeing the characters than my kids do. bear_grin This and Sea World.

I don't have a favorite. All the vacations spots I have been include the memories of that particular time, like a milestone. Each visit is different. Some of the best memories for me include the following places...

Yosemite
Vancouver, B.C.
Victoria
Lake Louise/Banff
Olympic National Park, Washington State
Disneyland
Lake Tahoe
Las Vegas
Biking in Colorado, Sierra Nevadas, New Mexico
Christmas in Santa Fe
Balloon Fiesta in Albuqerque
Amish Country in Pennsylvania
New Orleans

The list goes on and on. Someday I would love to take a bike vacation and spend two or more weeks traveling on a bike as my only means of transportation. I have flown to destinations and so far my favorite memories are the road trips. We spent three weeks on the road last summer and it was the best trip I have ever had. The ability to be spontaneous, change your route on the spur of the moment to go exploring is incredibly satisfying.

I have an obsession with German folkart and would someday love to travel to Germany and Austria.

What a lot of cool places and awesome pictures!

I'd have to say my favorite place for vacation is Brazil... in the north near Manuas - in the Amazon jungle!  When we go there we live on a river boat - kinda primitive but it SO adds to the atmosphere!

Here's a few pics... these were before I had a digital camera:

Aloha!!! Hawaii has to be my most favorite spot in the world especially the private little beaches on the North Shore of Oahu...goregous white sand and sparkinling blue water everywhere!!! Not to mention the amazing shopping in the outside market downtown Oahu!

Hmmmm . . . I haven't traveled a lot, but some of the places I've been to are terrific.  I love the Hill Country in Texas and I love the Colorado mountains.  Alaska was really gorgeous, but I'm not a cold weather person.  I love quiet beauty in general.

Well, call me boring but I just love to stay home.....and rest.....and eat.....oh don't get me going on eating, weight watchers and all....But for now, I spend all my vacation time in Florida visiting my parents. They are elderly and I want to look back and know I had as much time for them as I can give. But really, home is where I really like to vacation.

My dream vaction would be to go to England, I just watched the movie "The Holiday" and wished I was the one that got to go to england to a wonderful old cottage, OK I must say I would like to have Jude Law there too. bear_grin

I like both type vacations, I like the variety.  And sometimes just having all my family under our own roof for an entire week would be wonderful too.

Disneyworld!  We love it and only a live a couple of hours away.  It's the place we travel to the most.   In Florida, I also like the Keys.

As far as other places I've been, I don't really have a favorite, but I love Jackson, Wyoming and Grand Teton and Yellowstone.  I also love Hot Springs, Virginia.  We used to go every summer for a visit and my family has a place there.

Places I really want to go but haven't been yet: New Zealand, Australia, Japan.

Krista,
You have my vote! I once had a walking tour vacation of Maui, Hawaii, just Paradise! But right now I'm aiming for the Northwest, Seattle or Portland. I've vacationed there  for many years (6) and now I'm trying to get myself out there to live. Hopefully, this year! Love the ocean, islands and great art/craft community.

So many beautiful places to go....my favorite I guess was British Columbia. And Florida. And Cannes. And Washington. And Lake Balaton & Budapest. And Warwickshire. And Wales. And parts of Germany like Lake Starmberg or Leipzig. And Hilton Head Island.
I´d like to go to Hawaii one day, it´s just too far away....And I´d like to visit San Diego´s zoo. And Cornwall is a must. And Scotland.
But actually I´m a couch potatoe- I love it here at home and in my garden  bear_wub

HA!  Jodi, you're so sweet!!   Actually I think I was the one in love with the bear Koda.  The poor person inside trhe costume must have thought I was some kind of freak the way I was so ecited to see him.  He is my favorite character.

Karen and those of you who have been to Hawaii...I am so envious.  I want to visit there some day.

Jane I love the photo of Robin Hood's cave.  I found out recently that I may be realted to the infamous "Little John".  His real name was John Naylor, my maiden name, and I am from the area where the Naylors orginated.  If it is infact true, I think that is sooo cool!...but that would be about 800 years ago?
