For artists and collectors sponsored by Intercal...your mohair supplier and Johnna's Mohair Store
What's in your 'survival kit' when you do a show?
I don't mean sales pads, duct tape, needle, scissors, calcualtor, pens, cell phone, etc...
I mean the non-bear/sales/set up things.
For example I bring: head ache medicine and wet wipes
How about you?
Hi Daphne,
A big thermos of tea and maybe a sandwich, along with snack food that can be eaten quickly. I also like to take a magazine or two, for the slower times, later in the day. Advil is a must, after standing on my feet for a long time, and I can't count the number of times I have given a few to other artists.
hugs,
Brenda
Diet Coke, water, sandwiches, pb crackers....more Diet Coke
And yep, my purse pack of emergency meds. Wet wipes is a great idea, thanks!!!
Rescue Remedy Cream...for feet & ankles. A change of clothes...cause you can never dress quite right for indoor or outdoor shows. The artist attitude...never afraid to share what your passion is!!!! Plus the ability to smile when you get those stupid questions and or statements...
Hugs &
More Chocolate... I always leave some out to attract Collectors.
Something to work on. I bring my needlepunch or a bear head to work on. Gives me somthing to talk with people about.
My camera.... I have a new one I will be trying out at Schaumburg.

Laura and Jodi, Mine would include chocolate and Diet Coke! How much sense does that make!
I'd have to have advil and water too.
head ache tablets, bandaids, chocolate, thermos of hot chocolate, digital camera (so many collectors like a photo with you and you can email it later),
wet ones, sewing......
.......most essential...........ONE HUSBAND.....for when my morale goes down or I need to hide. ONE DAUGHTER......for great hugs, laughs and an excuse to walk around and hide!!!
Chocolate and Diet Coke.... I can just see a room full of bear artists bouncing off the walls from a sugar and caffine high! Too funny!
Daphne, I am bouncing off the walls at shows anyway. I just get such a charge out of being around all those bear people!!
I'd just like to say this is a great topic. I've got my first show on May 6th and I need all the help I can get!
Water, lip balm and ibuprofen. Yes venues have water but you dont always have time to rush away from your table and get some. Plus, shows tend to provide itty bitty plastic cups that are prone to being knocked over.
Sweets and biscuits to nibble on during the day!! Someone to help you unload and to help watch the stall during busy times (miniature bears are easy for people to steal without being noticed!). For our two-day fairs, we sometimes take a small square of carpet to stand on, if the hall is not carpeted, as it is easier on the feet!! You also sometimes see stallholders walking around in slippers on these two-day events, to help the feet!!! (these usually are older people though - I think I would look a bit strange in slippers at the age of 23!!!).
A calculator!! You should always prepare for that rare but wonderful customer who buys so many bears that you can't add up the total in your head!!!
Perfect timing, Daphne. I'm going to go set up for my first show today ! ! The Nevada City show will be Fri, Sat & Sun. I'm writing all these suggestions on my list.
Patty... Good Luck at the show!
Samantha... you are never to young to wear slippers! Just were some bunny slippers (or BEAR slippers) and everyone will love it!
Some great things you all bring with you!
Chocolate, coffee, cookies, chocolate
cookies, water, headache medicin, coke, cookies
protein bars, something to sew when things are slow, coffee, & advil (when i remember). i really should remember to pack handi wipes, but i often forget!
Patty & Gemma.... good luck and have fun!!
