A male black bear cub that was dropped off last week at an animal shelter in Sumter County FL is now in the care of the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park.
Authorities say they're trying to figure out where he came from, and say because of his young age, approximately 12-14 weeks, they can't release him back into the woods, as he likely wouldn't survive. They're searching for a permanent home for him.
Black bears are a threatened species in Florida.

What an absolutely adorable little boy. He seems not at all frightened of the people and is very playful. Very strange someone dropped off such a young cub. Makes me wonder if he was taken from his mother.
What an absolutely adorable little fellow! It sounds very suspicious that a human was able to have a cub this size, without the mother. Have they stolen the cub or worse, done something to the mother and then realized they couldn't handle a cub? Anyway, it's too bad, as the bear will probably always live in captivity now, instead of the life he was meant to live. Poor liitle guy.

Oh what a sweet face.....I do hope all turns out alright for him. I wonder if his mother died in some way....Oh, I can't even think about that....Thank goodness he is in good hands...
But you know, something could have easily happened to the mother (hit by a car), and at least the people did take him to the authorities rather than leaving him to fend for himself.
I know he'll be stuck in captivity, but if the black bears are endangered in Florida, perhaps this may be a future poppa for the genepool? He sure loves to play and wrestle LOL...that guy had better start using toys rather than his hands though!
Omg that is so cute.. heehe. Poor little guy though, I wonder what happened to his momma.
Bear Hugs!
