First, thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts over the weekend for mom's appendectamy. She'll be fine in a week or two. She came home last night.
We went to see her yesterday (Mother's Day). Took dad out to lunch. After lunch I rode back to the hospital with him... smacked my knee on the glove box/dash board as I was getting in. Said "ouch" but that was all... didn't really hurt much. Then when I got out I couldn't put any weight on it without screaming and tears. I don't recall ever having pain that bad and I have a very high pain tollerance! It didn't let up so I ended up in the Emergency Room myself! Turns out I have 'blood on the knee' and torn cartiledge and ligaments. I have a knee brace and crutches! Doctor said it was the angle at which I hit it.
Can you believe this??? How stupid!
And you should see me on crutches! Ha! I'm apt to have another accident if I use those for long!
I'm going to go crawl in a hole for a few days!

OMG - I can relate as I'm a clutz! Everything seems to be happening at once. Chin up!!
I fell off the couch and was on crutches for 2 weeks. Went to school and was in bio lab on the high stools and wrapped my legs around the legs of the stool and fell off knocking my crutched flying!! Boy talk about red face.

It sounds like you have a black cloud over you these days. Let's hope a nice wind come along and blows it away - but with your luck you'd go with it!!

Dear Daphne: Gosh it has not been your week has it. Now here you are on crutches. I do hope you feel better soon. Oh, and I am glad you mom is doing better.
OMG Daphne!!! I thought at first you were going to share an email...yikes! At least you were right at the hospital to have it dealt with.
The only thing I can say regarding crutches is that you'll be amazed at how quickly you adapt to them. I got stuck on them a long time ago, and thought I'd never get the hang of them, but by the end of the 6 weeks, I could 'outrun' my siblings with me being on crutches. A bit like a kangaroo I suspect
Oooh, and when it comes to stairs, sit down on your butt and scoot. I don't care how embarrassing it looks. I tried everything, and its just plain dangerous to hop one legged down the stairs. Oh and DON'T use the crutches going downstairs!!! I almost launched myself down a flight doing that.
Sending you healing thoughts for you and all your family
Oh my gosh....Daphne!!!!!!
Well, when it rains, it pours. I'm glad to see that you have a great sense of humor
At least, the crutches won't effect your bear making.
I hope you get well soon.

Wow, Daphne, you've really had a run of bad luck. Maybe you should just stay in your house for a few weeks and not try to see what else can happen. Your knee sounds painful so you should probably stay off it for long periods of time anyway.
Glad you parents are doing so much better and your mom will be home soon. I've wondered about your grandmother, though. Is her health still declining?
Take care?

   Thanks a lot, Marion!   You are probably right!

   I stood at the bottom of the stairs and thought "No way!!" I got an upper body work out going up the stairs on butt, backwards (my other knee has bursitis or some such nonesense in it and hurts anyway so I can't use that knee for much either!). And at the top I stood there and could totally see catapulting (sp?)myself right to the bottom with crutches!

All I can do is laugh about it all.
You should have seen my mother's expression when I returned to her hospital room from lunch in a knee brace and on crutches. It was priceless!

Marlys - I saw my grandmother on Saturday. She's frail, tired but she's hanging in there. She's eating a bit and taking her meds... an improvement over a week ago. We joke that she's like the Energizer Bunny... (for your international TTers - Energizer is a brand of batteries and they have a battery operated bunny in their TV commercials)... she just "keeps going... and going... and going... and going!"
Geez, Daphne! Are you sure no one's put a curse on you lately?
You didn't break a mirror recently, did you?
Just kidding! But you sure have had some bad luck lately. I've been
keeping you in my prayers.
So glad you can have a sense of humor still. You will get through
all this...just hang in there!

You should have seen my mother's expression when I returned to her hospital room from lunch in a knee brace and on crutches. It was priceless!
I bet it was a shock !!!
Do give yourself plenty of time to heal, though. And yes, its amazing how fast 'getting round' will tone bits of your body. My uninjured leg got so toned by the time I came off the crutches. Shame really, as my other leg didnt' match, and I sure as heck wasn't going to be hopping everywhere!
Daphne....
Are we going to have to have Henry encase you in bubble wrap before letting you out of the house? Wasn't it you who almost knocked yourself senseless with the back hatch of your SUV?
Those knee injuries are very painful...been there...done that...not fun!!! Glad you are taking it all with humor...what else is left? Huh?
Hugs,
Shantell
How do you get to be soo lucky! You have to admit it's almost funny.
Have you seen the secret? Maybe that would help.
Poor Daph. What a total bummer!
So sorry you are going through all of this Daphne, I do hope for nice things and brighter days ahead for you soon
Pauline
Daphne,
Don't just crawl into the hole honey, HIDE!!! Maybe that little cloud that's been following you won't be able to find you then. Take care!!!
Biggest Hugs,
Lisa
Ouch Daphine! Debbie I definately agree with you! I fell down the stairs and nearly broke my neck two years ago! I,m kind of a cluts.
Daph, I'm so NOT laughing at this one. Please take care of you!!!
Wasn't it you who almost knocked yourself senseless with the back hatch of your SUV?
You would have to bring THAT up again now wouldn't you???
Ya know, in my defense, I think it's more a matter of doing too much too fast...."ramming around" as my mother would say... and just not paying attention to what I'm doing. I AM NOT A KLUTZ!
I if don't laugh about this I'll cry!
As far as laughing I was but it was at myself! Daphine hon you have been through way too much!
Oh Daphne not something elsle, you poor darling you! Take it easy on those crutches don't try to rush around. I'm pleased to hear that your mum is doing OK now and your dad and of course it's great to hear that you grandmother is running well like the Energizer Bunny...may she keep going and going and going!
Hugs Jane.
Oh I know how much that pains - from experience!!!!!!!!!!!!
Daphne i am glad your family is all doing better..but you definately need to take care of you! a sense of humour is really required sometimes in our lives and its good you haveyours handy! you did give my husband a break from my teasing,,he slammed his own head in the kitchen cupboard door the other day! i didnt believe it! knee injuries are suposed to bethe most painful! hope all is better soon! hugs deb
