I think its truly wonderful for that man to honor George posthumously for bravery....talk about the ultimate sacrifice!

Now, my main concern, is what is up with the pitbull breeders??  I used to dog groom and never, ever feared a pitbull.  Normally they are the ultimate babysitter as well (anyone remember Pete from "The Little Rascals"?)  Pitbulls were used to attack and hold bulls, bears, and other large animals originally.  Then this focus shifted to the pitbulls fighting other dogs, and finally even this was banned.  As a result, a pitbull does not tend to socialize well with other dogs, but never are they supposed to show aggression to humans!!!

Soooo this is down to the breeders.  I'm beginning to wonder if the stock has become that inferior.  If it is not, then the breeders need to be doing a bit more researching and questioning future owners about how the dogs will be socialized, obedience trained, and taken care of.  I'm SO fed up with people wanting an unsocialized, untrained dog, and then pretending this will be a perfect guard dog.   bear_angry   Take into account the pack mentality of having two or more, and I think its a miracle those children survived the incident.

Bless his little heart! George really was a hero. I'm so sorry he had to give his life. What a brave little boy.

DebbieD, I agree about the pit bulls. They're really a pretty breed but so scary when you read about how dangerous they can be. I agree that the breeders need to be responsible but so many are  probably non-qualified-breeder bred and they certainly aren't interested in maintaining the quality standard of the breed.

What an awesome little dog.  I'm sorry he was injured so badly that he had to be put down.  bear_cry  bear_cry  bear_cry

That story even made the local papers here.  Poor boy!  I hope Saint Peter had  his favorite dog treats at the Bridge!  He didn't even think twice!  As far as Pits go, I think that it is breeding.  I have known some Pits that are very loving.
