My brother owns a chalet in Switzerland and while on holiday they came across a whole lot of things tossed out by some wealthy chalet owner onto the pavement.
They collected, about 6 paintings, table cloths, flower pots, and some other items, Said when he went back the next day to fetch the toaster, TV, and cabinet it was gone.
Here are some pictures of the paintings and one of the chalet, also included one of the snow to get those who ski to get the ski's on. I have skied in the Swiss Alps and in New Zealand, although hubby says the only thing I am good at is ski-ing into good looking Frenchmen.Granted I do spend a lot of time on my butt instead of my feet. But its such fun.

Lynette: what a great find. That picture is wonderful. Here in America people have garage sales or yard sales. Items a person does not want anymore just opens up their garage, puts the stuff out and people come by and buy things. Many advertise in the newspaper. Others will see their neighbor with sale, and will quickly go inside and put stuff out too. It saves them money on an advertisement. You can find some wonderful things. Sometimes people will sell things not knowing their worth and that is where you can scope up on valuable items for little money.
I wonder if garage sales are an “American thing†? Do other countries have garage sales?
That was considered "trash" by the wealthy one? Sheesh - I wish I had been the one to find it all!!
Wow, what a find! I am going to Switzerland in a few days to visit a friend, I will have to keep my eyes peeled for free paintings!

" we just left it on the pavement as we were inside having a cuppa"
what a find! Where in Switzerland is the chalet?
Ha Wendy can you imagine that,
Chrissie it is in Villars, it is a smaller town and ski-resort, unlike Verbier, St Moritz, or the other places that the rivh and famous like visiting. How ever is it not far from Verbier about 15-20 minutes by train.
When visiting us from OZ, he mentioned they wanted to sell it, but having spent some time there I think he changed his mind. The problem they have is that to get from Oz, to Europe it involves lots of flying time.
Aeri, I find Switzerland one of the most beautiful countries, in small village "Sigriswil, they have a bear show every year in August, attended by overseas artists, I normally go, but this year with a wedding , it was not possible.
I normally go for the view, mountains and peace, then I sell bears !!!! Sigriswil is situated up the mountain so you have a spectacular view of Lake Thun, with the snow peaked moutains in the background. My husband will come with for this show as he is a runner and enjoys running in the mountains, otherwise I travel on my own.
Enjoy it when you visit.
Lynette
Ahhh Lynette, what a clever brother you have. It truly is amazing what some will throw out.
I admire him. I would, my mom did this all the time, since she was a little girl. She and her sister dug out a passel of stastionary from a lady named Valerie Boris, it was linen and lavendar and lasted 40 years- they would send it to people in the family on special occassions, and it aged to a purplish gray. She also furnished a good deal of the second home with stuff she found thrown out and she refinished.
My piano bench and rocker were trash and simply refurnished. I made new cushion for the piano bench and re-upholstered the rocker. i keep my eyes open. Rick found some really great antique tools he was pleased with....you just never know.......
think of you often my friend, every time I practise I see him.......
gollyhugs

My hubby said if I die before him he will throw it all out........so i am having a codicil to the will written-how could he throw out supplies the costs of which are,[ now that I am going to start porcelain gollies] are up in the stratosphere-think about what all you have invested in your supplies, if you add up your invoices it will curl your toes......
i told him he could sell on e-bay and supplement his retirement enough to do what he loves, play with big cars.....

  I can soooo picture that!
What lovely paintings! Although that one of the snow on the mountain looks very uninviting to me. I spend ALL my time skiing with my butt Saves my legs from going opposite directions!
And I must say, that mountain does not look butt-friendly.
