Barn-kitty-01-1.JPGHi guys.  I had to show you some photos my daughter took of some new barn litties.  These littel fur balls are so tame.  Unfortunately some were "stolen" and we believe eaten by a large black male cat.  We witnessed one being carried off...we were horrified. We had no idea that this sort of thing even happened with cats. The mother cat  brought her  two remaining kittens to us and we have been feeding them and watching over them.  They are too cute for words.

Ohh what sweet kitties Judi...I remember when I was growing up...we had a whole lot of cats on our farm..and the one main daddy cat would from time to time do his own "kitty population control" he got to have the fun...and then deleted the extras so to speak...it was aweful!!!But at one point we had over 40 cats...so..hmmm....

Look at those darling little faces....

Yes, Judi...males are terrible for doing that sort of thing.  I also learned from our vet this time around since we now have a female in the mix that females will also kill new kittens as well.  They feel threatened by the new babies.  I had no idea.  Skippy was especially nasty to Slinky when we finally let her free from the garage for her "mini-vacations" from the kittens.

So glad your little mamma brought the babes to you for extra protection.

What adorable little ones!!!   bear_wub

What beautiful little face and what a smart mama cat to bring her last two surviving to you for help. Mama certainly looks relaxed now...probably the first good rest she's had for a while.

Judi - those two are adorable.  I miss my two guys, but can have MaeLynn getting sick from them either.

These kittens are growing fast.  This mamma kitty had about two to three litters a year.  Our Shamu kitty that we adopted is one of her offspring.  She really has a motley-crew-of-a-litter each time.  There is always such a variety of fur lengths and color patterns.

We often wondered why sometimes so many of the kittens woudl just diappear.  We thought may hawks got some of them as there are lots of hawks that fly around above our fields looking for mice and rabbits.

Now we know where many of them have gone..... bear_cry  bear_cry  bear_cry   The big mean black cat came back to claim another kitten while my daughter was outside and she said the mother cat attacked him and he ran off.  He tore one of her back paws in the process.  I have been tryimg to get her to take some antibiotics.  She seems to be fine and the kittens are too.  We are tryimg so hard not to get attached but it's sooo hard...just look at those faces!

The grey and white is a boy kitty....I found that out when I picked him up.  Yes, the mother cat lets us handle her kittens.  This is a first.  AND...she has been bringing us presents!!!!  Chipmonks, rabbits, and lots of mice.  She leaves them at the door.  Funny things cats are.  I love them.

Their little faces are just beautiful. The little gray/white kitty reminds me of a kitty Krista made a while back. I believe her inspiration was one of the little rescue kitties she was caring for. I can't find him right now. Krista...you know who I mean.

bear_sad  That poor momma kitty.  She sure is having a rough time trying to get these  two raised.  Bless her heart for bringing them to you for extra protection  bear_wub   I know how hard it is not to get attached.  My parents warned the same about our barn cats as we were growing up.  The outside cats really have such a rough life  bear_sad

What a lovely calico girlie, though.  And of course the babies are simply adorable  bear_wub   How is Shamu doing??

Cats are indeed interesting creatures.
The little female that I had for years would bring us mice all the time.  She would also hunt box elder bugs, YUCK!

bear_wub Look at those gorgeous eyes!!!

I'd bring them inside and keep them far from that meany black cat! bear_angry

I'm afraid I wouldn't do well on a farm... the circle of life seems so unfair at times.

oh oh oh they are just sooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute, I love the little boys face  bear_wub   I am so relieved to hear at least these were saved from the black cat!  Can't think how you can not get attached to them  bear_original
Give them a wee cuddle from me bear_original  The mum cat looks just like the mother of one of my cats that was dumped with her litter outside our house - luckily we managed to rescue all kittens and mum and find them all good homes (having to keep one of course!)

Judi they are adorable,  I haven't let Steve see the pics as he would want to bring them all home.  We can't walk past any store that has kittens or cats in it, we have to go in and pet and say hi to each and everyone of them.   He wouldn't do very well on a farm either as Daphne said that whole "circle of life" thing is hard to take.  I know it happens and that's life I just don't want to see it  bear_grin .

big hugs

I know exactly what Shane and Daphne mean about the "circle of life".  It really pulls on the heart strings, let me tell you.
Our animals are so well cared for.  Our cows all have thier own mattress's to sleep on and my hubby keeps them all very clean and comforatable.  Heck, we even have an electronic back scratcher for the cows and there is always a line to use it...see the pictures posted.

When a cow or calf dies it upsets me  alot.  It makes me cry.  I hate that part....although thankfully it does not happen often.FARM-picK5-1.JPGFARM-picK9-1.JPGFARM-picK3-1.JPG

Judi,
I just saw a documentary on TV about dairy cows. The electronic brushes and the cows milk themselves with electronic "milkers".  Awesome! It's nice to know they are so well cared for!
Your little grey and white kitty looks like Jenny made him bear_grin
