So I'm sitting here in the Sacramento airport.  I'm supposed to be boarding an airplane bound for Las Vegas... bound for IDEX, and the TT event there... in less than thirty minutes.  I'm supposed to be hitting the tarmac in Vegas before 3:30, with more than enough time to taxi myself and my carry-on bag to the Rio for the big event.

That's what's supposed to be happening.

Unfortunately, US Airways and their flight crew think differently.  The incoming jet that's supposed to pick me up in Sacto and ferry me to Sin City has been delayed due to weather and "crew rest," and won't arrive to Sacramento until 4:00 to pick up delayed passengers on doomed flight #139.  The flight itself itakes about 1.5 hours, Sac to Vegas.

The Teddy Talk event at IDEX, where Mindy Kinsey, Editor of Teddy Bear & Friends, and Judi Paul, and who knows who else?, are expecting me, is just one hour long -- from 5pm to 6pm.

You do the math.

AARGH!  AARGH!  AARGH!  AARGH!  AARGH!

Sitting here, feeling irked and sorry for myself and worried about the political ramifications now that I'm officially going to be a "no show", I feel marginally cheered by the fact that today's SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE headlines the following story:  "Bumpy summer in store for fliers," and then goes on to tell the stories of multitudes of similarly irked passengers, one of whom has been rebooked on a flight to Puerto Vallarta two days out, with ZERO compensation (all of this, by the way, from the same airline that's holding me up today.)

I'm looking forward to seeing IDEX itself and to time with hubby and seeing a Cirque show and the spectacle of Vegas; I've never visited.  But the entire point and purpose of this trip was to be in attendance tonight for that one hour, representing Teddy Talk at the TT Event, meeting Mindy and Judi, and hopefully others -- collectors, artists -- who registered or might walk in to the event.

I can't begin to express how disappointed, angry, crushed, annoyed, etc., I am right now.

Please send your support!

Mindy, Judi, artists, collectors, and friends ... if you're reading this, I'm so sorry.  It was beyond my control.

Oh Shelli, I'm sorry you are going to miss out - how frustrating!  I'm sure everyone will understand but I know how disappointed you must feel.  I hope the rest of the weekend is fabulous, even though it won't make up for missing out on the TT party!

bear_sad How horribly awful!!!  Oh Shell I'm so so sorry this has happened to you   bear_cry

The airlines have gotten so rotten, that hubby and I purposely plan to fly in to any event one full day ahead.  I really wish they'd get their act together.  And no compensation ~ that's just ridiculous!!!  bear_angry Evil people!  bear_angry

total bummer, but they will understand
Still doesn't make things easier. I also hate air travel, the waiting takes soooo long!

Hugs to you, too, Sophie; I just read about your own thwarted vacation plans. :(

Thanks Heather, Debbie, and Brenda for your empathy and support.  It means a lot, and makes the time pass quicker.  THere's nothing more boring than waiting for a delayed flight in an air terminal.

Bummer Shelli...sending you       I have been on an airplane exactly 4 times in my 60 year...once to Sin City from NM & back (Herbal thingy) and once to upstate NY & back...(when my dad died...14 1/2 years ago...)...I had decided that god didn't give me wings...a long time ago...and after those experiences...it just made it clearer in my mind...so last year my trip back east to spend time with my Mom & family for 3 weeks...I traveled via train...was great fun....and soon I will be traveling via Greyhound Bus to San Antonio & back to spend time meeting out new foster grandbaby...Evie...and seeing our son & daughter in law & their new home & going to the beach in Corpus & leaving hubby home to tend critters etc...
Hope you have your wings back by now Shelli...sooo frustrating I am sure...but hope you have a wonderful weekend!!!Be safe!

Ugh...that blows. Even when things go smooth, flying is stressful. You feel like a total prisoner. i feel really bad for you, I am really sorry. I don't know how people travel all the time for business and remain sane.

We are driving our 5,500 mile trip next year.

Oh, Shelli, I have been feeling so sorry for myself that I wasn't able to go to Vegas this weekend for Idex, and the TT gathering was one of the main things that I REALLY wanted to go to - I can't imagine how upset I would be if I had managed to make the trip and then didn't get there in time because of flight delays!!! I feel for you! Hopefully the rest of the weekend will go extra fabulously to make up for it!

You guys are the best!  I feel so cheered by your understanding.  I still haven't been able to contacgt Mindy or Judi directly but I did phone Mindy at her hotel to explain my absense.  Yeesh, talk about uncomfortable.  Nothing like disappointing the Editor of a huge trade magazine.  Laughing here...

I'll be going to the show tomorrow and possibly to the artist panel Sunday morning too, depending on plans with hubby Tim.  Tonight we took the Monorail up and down the strip, which is waaaaaaaaay huger and longer than I thought.  The Bellagio fountains and Venetian were GORGEOUS.  I took a few night photos (not sure they'll turn out) and will take heaps more pictures tomorrow at the show.  I do think dolls are more represented than bears but I love dolls too and think we're all part of the same general family so it should be really fun to browse and meet people.

I just hope when I finally meet Mindy that she doesn't smack me up side the head.  Judi, too, for that matter.  ;)

More later.  This city never sleeps, but I find as I near 42, I really MUST, at least a little bit.  Nitey nite!

Glad to know you finally made it safely! How frustrating. While I'm sure you were missed at the TT event, I'm sure it won't be held against you. It was completely out of your hands. Enjoy the show!
