I got an e-mail from Ellen (user name is elle) telling me she, her hubby and daughter went back home safely from their trip in Europe.
As i promised you, here are some photos of our day spent in Paris together.
I decided to meet them at their hotel so I took the underground. I arrived right in front off the Triumph Arc:
Mark, Ellen and their young daughter Sophie are lovely people.
We firts visited altogether a part of the famous and huge department store Les Galeries Lafayette. It was very busy because of the sales just beginning the day before.
What worsts the detour is its famous ceiling :
Amazing, isn't it?
This store has 7 floors + main one.
Then, it was lunch time, so we stopped nearby to fill in our stomachs.
Before parting, we took a few photos (Mark and Sophie planned to go site-seing together):
On the photo: Mark, Sophie and Ellen.
On the photo : Ellen, me and Sophie.
Ellen and I decided to visit a few interesting shops.
We first stopp at the teddy bear shop "L'ours du marais":
That was not my favourite teddy shop, as the bears were crowded like sardines in tins.
Then we went to a shop when there is teddy bear making materials, "Le pain d'épices":
This shop was very well located in a beautiful, old style gallery. The shop itself was really pretty and we enjoyed it a lot; We bought there a few things.
Finally we stopped in the teddy bear shop "La Compagnie", where i left three of my bears (mt first time at leaving bears in a shop):
With teddy bear shop is really lovely and I left my bears with a big relief knowing my bears would be well cared of!
This was a fantastic day. The only annoying thing about it is that we wpent a lot of time in underground stations, climbing stairs!
When Ellen and I finally went back to the hotel, we were exhausted.
Beary hugs,
Sophie.
Stunning Pix, Sophie! Elle is VERY tiny isn't she?
Those sites look very familiar - happy to see that you sold some bears, bought some supplies and visited L'ours du marais. I never went in there. It was too crowded....
TTer Virginia Jasmer (Jazzbears) supplies bears to them too.
Great pictures and great story, Sophie. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, three bear shops all in one day! I can imagine you were exhausted at the end of the day.
Sophie . . . what a fantastic report of your visit with Elle and her family!!! Love your superb photos . . . thanks much for sharing!!!
Hi Sophie!!!
It's me, Ellen. We had a great day with you, also! You were so kind to take a long train ride up to Paris to meet with us. We'll always remember our special day together!
The teddy stores were wonderful, especially the one where you put your teddys, and the Pain d'Epices had all kinds of yummy stuff -- for miniatures, teddy-making supplies, French card games. adorable "metal?" animal figures, etc. We were both very conservative and didn't walk out with the whole shop. I did get two small lengths of beautiful mohair and a French card game, Batabille, that Mark, my Sophie, and I played in the hotel room later that evening.
Sophie kindly didn't mention the disaster that occurred in Les Galleries Lafayette. The department store was jam packed full of people because it was the second day of "SOLDE" (sales!) in Paris. (Are they all over Europe? They were in Barcelona "Rebaixes!" also the next week.)
Anyway, we were going down the escalator and Mark stopped on a floor to take a picture of the gorgeous ceiling without mentioning it to us, of course. We stopped on the next floor to wait for him when we noticed he wasn't with us. I saw him coming down the escalator, then he disappeared. We started looking for him with no luck. Sinking feeling coming on fast!
Finally we went down to customer service and told them we lost my husband and could they make an announcement for him to come to customer service? They said NO, they only made announcements for children! Sophie said something to them in French, and they decided to make the announcement. Then I went up on the next floor to look for him some more. I asked a man who worked at the store if he had seen a tall, lost man who didn't speak French and he knew all about it. He took me downstairs to where Mark and Sophie now were, but now my Sophie was gone -- upstairs looking for me. We waited a few minutes, and then we were finally all together again. I have a few pics of Sophie and us together that I can add when I get them downloaded onto the computer and we should also have a "beautiful" picture of the ceiling of Les Galleries Lafayette that Mark took.
Oh, and Sophie and I stopped for a drink in the afternoon at one of those great patisserie places and got the most delicious apricot slush I ever had. Mark, my Sophie, and I actually ran into the same place on another day and we got another one.
Hey, Bobbie! I'm not really that tiny -- I just happen to have a husband who is 6'4" and I'm 5'1", so we look like Mutt and Jeff.
Wow! What fun!!!! I've never had a desire to go to Paris but after seeing those photos and knowing there are bear shops there I'm changing my mind. Thanks for sharing pictures! Can't wait to see your's, Ellen!
Great pictures Sophie, it sounds like you all had a great time.
Lynn
Here are a couple more photos of us. The second one is at the restaurant where we ate lunch. After the adventure in Les Galleries Lafayette, Mark's photo of the ceiling doesn't seem to be in the camera.
It might be in the video camera, though. I'll add it if we find it.
What lovely, lovely pics :photo: Thanks to you both for putting them on here for us to see
Ooooh, now I'm drooling for an apricot slushie ~ yummmmmm!!! I've never been to France, but I can see it will be on the ' to do' list
great pictures! sounds like it was fun!
Looks and sounds like you had a terrific time together. It is so fun meeting TT'ers in the fur
